Powerlifting at Levelland (2-11-2017)

The Muleshoe Powerlifting team competed in the Levelland Lobo Powerlifting Meet Saturday. Three lifters brought home medals. Brianna Barron lifted a total of 580 pounds for second place in the 114-pound division. 

Gloria Gonzales took third place in the 123-pound division with a total weight of 505 pounds. Michael Lozano also placed third in the 148-pound division with a total of 990 pounds. 

Barron had a squat lift of 230 pounds, bench pressed 95 pounds and made a deadlift of 255 pounds. Gonzales made a squat lift of 205 pounds, bench pressed 95 pounds and deadlifted 205 pounds. 

Lozano squat lifted 400 pounds, bench pressed 190 pounds and made a deadlift of 400 pounds. Justin Carrion lifted in the 148-pound weight class with a total weight of 775 pounds. He made a squat lift of 275 pounds, bench pressed 170 pounds and deadlifted 330 pounds. Jacob Barron also competed in the 148-pound class. He squat lifted 215 pounds, bench pressed 135 pounds and deadlifted 250 pounds for a total of 600 pounds. 

Derek Barron lifted in the 114-pound weight class. He squat lifted 205 pounds, bench pressed 105 pounds and deadlifted 225 pounds for a total of 535 pounds. 

Ryan Rodriguez lifted more than 1000 pounds in the 198-pound weight class. He squat lifted 400 pounds, bench pressed 220 pounds and deadlifted 430 pounds for a total weight of 1050 pounds. 

Luis Franco competed in the 198-pound weight class. He squat lifted 315 pounds, bench pressed 185 pounds and deadlifted 350 pounds for a total of 850 pounds. Isaac Carreaga also lifted in the 198-pound class. He squat lifted 275 pounds, bench pressed 205 pounds and deadlifted 315 pounds for a total of 795 pounds.

Rudy Ruiz lifted in the 242-pound class. He squat lifted 365 pounds, bench pressed 210 pounds and deadlifted 335 pounds for a total of 910 pounds. 

Valeria Carreaga competed in the 132-pound weight class. She squat lifted 205 pounds, bench pressed 105 pounds and deadlifted 185 pounds for a total of 495 pounds. Erika Arzola lifted in the 148-pound class. She squat lifted 240 pounds, bench pressed 140 pounds and deadlifted 285 pounds for a total of 665 pounds. 

Lourdes Escalante competed in the 165-pound weight class. She squat lifted 250 pounds, bench pressed 105 pounds and deadlifted 275 pounds for a total of 630 pounds. Nikole Quezada lifted in the 165-pound weight class. She squat lifted 210 pounds, bench pressed 100 pounds and deadlifted 225 pounds for a total of 535 pounds. 

The Muleshoe Powerlifting Team will compete in the Seagraves Eagle Powerlifting Meet February 18. That is the final qualifying meet for the girls’ regional meet. The boy’s final qualifying meet will be held February 25 in Bovina.

Mules vs. Roosevelt & Littlefield (2-6 & 10-2017)

The Mules had little trouble defeating the Lubbock Roosevelt Eagles Tuesday evening. The Mules downed the Eagles 68-43. But Friday night proved to be problematic for the Mules when they went against the Littlefield Wildcats. Littlefield defeated the Mules 57-48.

Jason Florez finally got the Mules started against the Eagles with a layup. Florez had added two more baskets before the first quarter ended. Dagen Dunham chipped in a free throw. 

Jesse Leal finished a fast break and dropped in a 10-foot jumper. Beto Diaz ended the first quarter with a hoop on an in-bound play. The Mules led 13-6 after one period.

Florez scored on a fast break to start the second quarter. Diaz fed him the ball for a second basket. Diaz and Leal finished fast breaks with layups. Dunham dominated the lane and scored six buckets in the second period. The Mules had outscored Roosevelt 23-10 in the second frame to lead the Eagles 36-16.

Leal picked an Eagles pocket and drove to the hoop. Romeo Reyes, Tre Villa, and Diaz each scored a bucket in the third period. Flores scored a pair of baskets. Dunham drove the floor for a pair of hoops and put back a rebound. The Mules led 54-25 with one quarter left to play. 

Dunham opened the final period with a three-point play. He later added a basket and sank a trey. Diaz scored from the elbow. Florez and Villa each scored a hoop before the game ended. 

Dunham paced the Mules with 25 points. Florez dropped in 12 points. Leal and Diaz added eight points each. Flores finished with seven points. Villa scored four points, and Reyes chipped in two points. 

Diaz finally puts the Mules on the board with five and a half minutes left in the first period. Florez made a pair of free throws. Dunham hit a jump shot and ended the first quarter with a free throw. The Mules trailed Littlefield 14-7 after one frame. 

Leal opened the second period with a pair from the charity line. Diaz made two hoops. Villa and Dunham made a basket each. The Mules trailed 25-17 at the half.

Donovan Gutierrez scored forty seconds into the third period. Dunham put back a rebound and made three free throws. Flores chipped in three charity tosses, and Diaz added two. Florez scored the Mules final hoop of the quarter. The Mules trailed 44-31 with eight minutes left to play. 

Flores scored a layup and chipped in a pair of free throws. Gutierrez scored a pair of hoops, and Diaz dropped in three baskets. Dunham made a free throw, and Florez scored the Mules final basket of the game. 

Diaz led the Mules 14 points, and Dunham added 11 points. Flores finished with seven points. Gutierrez and Florez made six points each. Villa and Leal chipped in two points each. 

The Mules hosted the Idalou Wildcats in the two teams final regular season game. A win by the Mules would keep them in playoff contention.

The JV Mules traveled to Littlefield Friday evening and fell victim to the Wildcats 55-48. The Mules led through the first three quarters of the game, but the Mules succumbed to the Wildcats full-court pressure in the final frame.

Raul Sierra took the opening tip and sank a quick trey to ignite the Mule offense. Izaiah Perez received a pass across the paint from Jacob Kettner and scored. He added three more hoops and free throw. 

Kettner stole a Littlefield pass and drove the floor for a layup. Luke Leal chipped in a pair of free throws. The Mules led 16-8 after the opening quarter. 

Isreal Vasquez chipped in a free throw to open the second period. He later sank a trey and a basket. Julian Astorga had made a pair of hoops before the half ended. Kettner sank a charity toss and hit a 10-foot jumper. The Mules led 30-14 at the intermission. 

Littlefield cut the Mule lead to just five points in the third quarter. Perez scored first for the Mules seconds into the second half. He later chipped in a free throw. Kettner dropped in a 15-foot jump shot, and Leal made a pair of charity tosses. Luke Del Toro made a pair of free throws and scored the Mules final basket seconds before the frame ended. 

Brady Martinez scored a hoop midway through the final quarter. Perez added a basket from the paint. Leal chipped in a free throw, and Astorga just beat the buzzer for the Mule final two points. 

Perez led the Mules with 14 points. Kettner dropped in seven points. Astorga, Leal, and Vasquez added six points each. Del Toro made four points, Sierra three points, and Martinez chipped in two points. 

The Mules hosted the Idalou Wildcats Tuesday evening for their final game of the season.

The JV Lady Mules ended their season at Lubbock Roosevelt Tuesday evening on a winning note. The Lady Mules took down the Lady Eagles 48-39.

Natalie Diaz got the Lady Mules off to a quick start with a hoop just seconds into the game. Alyssa Wheeler scored on an inbound play under the Lady Mules basket. She later added a second hoop. 

Brianna Barron went coast-to-coast after a steal for a layup. She then chipped in a free throw. Maddison Price also scored on an inbound play along with putting back a pair of Lady Mule offensive rebounds. 

The Lady Mules had leaped in front of Roosevelt 15-8. 

Barron drove the lane for a layup leaving the Eagles standing in her wake. She later led a fast break for a hoop and dropped in a third basket before the half ended. Wheeler made a pair of jump shots from the baseline and later added an old fashion three-point play. Reina Regalado scored on a feed from Barron to end the second period with the Lady Mules leading 30-22.

Wheeler scored the Lady Mules first and last baskets of the third period. Price put back a rebound, and Melody Moran chipped in a free throw. Natali Elizalde took a feed from Diaz 48 seconds before the frame ended. The Lady Mules had increased their lead to 39-29 with one period left to play. 

Barron led off the final period with a basket. Kayla Torres put back a rebound for a hoop. Wheeler chipped in a free throw and added two more baskets before the game ended. 

Wheeler led the Lady Mules with 20 points. Barron added 11 points, and Priced dropped in eight points. Diaz, Elizalde, Torres, and Regalado scored two points each. Moran chipped in a free throw. 

The Lady Mules now move on to their spring athletic endeavors.    

8th Mules vs. Friona (2-6-2017)

The eighth-grade Mules missed enough free throws in the final quarter to have iced the game Monday afternoon against Friona. The Mules fell 23-19. 

Joe Gutierrez scored the Mules only hoop in the first period with two minutes left to play. That basket tied the game 2-2. Friona scored to take a 5-2 lead after one quarter.

Cesar Enriquez tied the game at 5-5 with a trey in the second quarter. 

The Mules and Friona battled in the third quarter, and the score remained tied. Gutierrez led off for the Mules with a hoop 15 seconds into the third period. Eli Macias put the Mules ahead with a 12-foot jumper. Riley Kettner made a steal and drove the floor for a hoop, and he ended the frame with a pair of free throws. 

The two teams were locked in a 13-13 tie with one period left to play. 

Gutierrez chipped in a free throw with less than four minutes left to play to keep the Mules close. Enriquez sank his second 3-pointer of the game to put the Mules on top 17-15 with two minutes left. Gutierrez ended the Mules’ scoring with a hoop with 90 seconds left to play. 

Friona made eight unanswered points in the final minute and a half.

Gutierrez led the Mules with seven points. Enriquez added six points. Kettner made all four of his points in the third quarter. Macias chipped in two points. 

The Mules wrapped up their season in Shallowater Monday afternoon.

The seventh-grade Mules fell behind the Friona Braves Monday in their final home game. But the Mules made a run at Friona in the final period but could not catch the Braves. The Mules lost 27-20. 

Zack Hasley sank a trey for the Mules only points in the opening quarter. The Mules trailed 10-3 after one frame. 

Daniel Avila scored to open the second period, and Abraham Mendoza chipped in a free throw just before the end of the first half. The Mules trailed 14-6 at the intermission. 

Jeremiah Barron led a fast break to open the second half. Victor Morales dropped in a short jumper, and Mendoza sank a bucket as the third quarter ended. The Mules trailed 23-12 with one quarter left in the game. 

Hasley finished a fast break to open the final period. Barron made back-to-back hoops, and Evan Lopez grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back on the glass for the Mules final points. 

Barron led the Mules with six points. Hasley put in five points, and Mendoza added three points. Avila and Morales chipped in two points each. 

The Mules traveled to Shallowater for their final game of the season Monday afternoon.

The Mules dominated the Friona Chieftains Tuesday night 62-29. The Mules out ran Friona 13-2 in the opening period to set the stage for the balance of the evening. But Shallowater roughed up the Mules Friday night 63-56. 

Donovan Gutierrez scored just seconds into the game after the Mules controlled the tip. A minute later Gutierrez was sinking a second hoop. Tre Villa sank a trey from the corner. Dagen Dunham heated up and put back a rebound. He sank a 3-pointer from the corner before the first quarter ended. 

Jesse Leal scored from 15 feet to start the second quarter. Romeo Reyes finished a fast break. Dunham made his second trey and finished the half with a pair of baskets. Gutierrez finished a fast break. Beto Diaz chipped in a free throw and scored in the paint. Mario Flores made a free throw to end the half with the Mules leading 34-12. 

Dunham scored to start the third quarter and had added two more baskets before the period ended. Gutierrez made a layup and scored from 12 feet. Diaz made three charity tosses. Eric Herrera dropped in a trey from the corner. Leal scored with time running out. The Mules led 52-21 at the end of three quarters. 

Dunham went coast-to-coast for a layup to start the final quarter. Gutierrez made a hoop. Jason Florez and Diaz each sank 3-pointers as time ran out in the game. 

Dunham led the Mules with 22 points. Gutierrez finished with 12 points. Diaz scored nine points. Leal made four points. Herrera, Villa, and Florez scored three points each. Reyes and Javy Perez dropped in two points each. Flores chipped in one point. 

Villa made a pair of free throws to break the scoring ice for the Mules against Shallowater. Leal scored from eight feet. Diaz made a free throw, and Gutierrez made back-to-back hoops. Dunham drained a trey and then added a basket. The Mules trailed Shallowater 23-13.

The Mules chipped one point off the Shallowater lead in the second period. Dunham made a pair of baskets before stealing a Mustang inbound pass and dunking the ball. Flores chipped in a pair of free throws. Diaz and Florez each scored a hoop before the half ended. The Mules trailed 34-25. 

The Mules made a run at the Mustangs in the third quarter. Dunham scored three baskets. Gutierrez completed a three-point play by making his free throw after being fouled while scoring. Diaz made two free throws before sinking a trey. Florez dropped in a 3-pointer. The Mules trailed 42-39 entering the final frame. 

Dunham put back a rebound to start the last quarter. He added a second hoop before the game ended. Flores and Gutierrez each scored a basket. Diaz dropped in a trey from the corner and later chipped in a pair of free throws. Florez dropped in three charity tosses. 

Dunham paced the Mules with 21 points. Diaz finished with 13 points, and Florez scored 11 points. Gutierrez made nine points. Flores dropped in four points. Leal and Villa chipped in two points each. 

The Mules traveled to Lubbock Roosevelt Tuesday night to play the Roosevelt Eagles. The will go to Littlefield Friday night to battle the Wildcats. The Mules will wrap up their regular season Tuesday night when they host the Idalou Wildcats at 6:30 PM.

The Lady Mules dominated the Friona Squaws 59-39 Tuesday night in Friona. The Lady Mules returned home Friday night and never found their rhythm against the Shallowater Fillies. The Fillies defeated the Lady Mules 47-34.

The Lady Mules got off to a slow start in the opening period against the Squaws and fell behind 9-5. Keely Dunham put back a rebound for the Lady Mules first points of the game. Sydnie Sudduth sank an eight-foot jumper and later chipped in a free throw. 

The Lady Mules heated up in the second period and buried the Squaws with an 18-8 run to lead Friona 24-17 at the half. 

Sy. Sudduth scored from the elbow. Sadie Sudduth tied the game at 9-9 with a bucket and later chipped in a free throw. Emily Precure scored a hoop. Yvonne Diaz made two free throws and completed a three-point play before the quarter ended. Sy. Sudduth sank back-to-back treys to put the Lady Mules on top to stay. 

Reagan Reynolds sank a 3-pointer from the baseline. Precure chipped in a free throw and later sank a trey. Marilyn Melendez put back a rebound. Sadie Sudduth made back-to-back hoops. Lilly Barrera chipped in a pair of free throws. Sydnie Sudduth made a charity toss and sank a trey. The Lady Mules led Friona 43-30 at the end of three quarters. 

Sa. Sudduth made the Lady Mules first basket of the final period, and she later chipped in a free throw. Barrera was two-for-two from the charity line. Sy. Sudduth made all six of her free throw attempts. Precure sank three free throws and Melendez chipped in two. 

Sy. Sudduth paced the Lady Mules with 21 points. Sa. Sudduth scored 10 points, and Precure added nine points. Diaz made all five of her points in the second quarter. Melendez and Barrera dropped in four points each. Reynolds sank a trey for three points, and Dunham chipped in two points. 

Shallowater controlled the tempo of the game Friday night and outscored the Lady Mules 9-6 in the first quarter. Sa. Sudduth jumpstarted the Lady Mules with a basket. Sy. Sudduth made a pair of free throws and Reynolds scored just before the quarter ended. 

Sa. Sudduth caught fire in the second period. She went coast-to-coast for a layup to start the quarter. Twenty seconds later she dropped in a trey and then added a basket. Diaz scored in the paint and chipped in a free throw. The Lady Mules had tied the game at 16-16 at the intermission. 

Shallowater took control of the contest in the second half. Sa. Sudduth gave the Lady Mules a brief lead by making the first hoop of the second half. She later went coast-to-coast for a basket. Precure added a charity toss to end the quarter. Shallowater led the Lady Mules 26-21 with one quarter left to play. 

Precure made a basket and later sank a trey in the final frame. Sy Sudduth put back a rebound. Sa. Sudduth dropped in a trey and then added three free throws. 

Sa. Sudduth led the Lady Mules with a game-high 19 points. Precure added six points and Sy. Sudduth dropped in four points. Diaz made three points, and Reynolds chipped in two points. 

The Lady Mules final regular season game was played at Lubbock Roosevelt Tuesday night.

The JV Mules dominated the Friona Chiefs 50-12 on Tuesday evening in Friona. Friday the Mules hosted the Shallowater Mustangs and lost the game 50-36.

Julian Astorga got started early against Friona with a pair of free throws. He later added a basket. Raul Sierra scored a hoop. Brady Martinez put back a rebound and had added a second basket before the quarter ended. 

Luke Del Toro sank a trey. Jacob Kettner put back an offensive rebound, and Izaiah Perez completed an old fashion three-point play. The Mules led 18-4 after one quarter. 

Wyatt Parker scored a pair of hoops in the second period. Astorga scored one basket and later chipped in a free throw. Kettner closed out the half with a basket. The Mules led 27-8 at the half. 

Astorga owned the third quarter for the Mules with two hoops and a pair of free throws. Luke Leal drained a 3-pointer to put the Mules on top 36-10 with one period left to play.

Israel Vasquez made a basket and dropped in a trey in the final quarter. Kettner, Perez, Ethan Villa, and Adrian Bustillos each scored a hoop. Parker chipped in a free throw. 

Astorga paced the Mules with 13 points. Kettner finished with six points. Vasquez, Parker, and Perez each added five points. Martinez made all four of his points in the first quarter. Leal and Del Toro score three points each. Villa and Sierra chipped in two points each. 

The Mules fell behind in the opening period against Shallowater. Sierra went coast-to-coast for the Mules opening basket. Astorga put back a rebound, and Del Toro chipped in a free throw. The Mules trailed 9-5 after one quarter. 

Sierra chipped in a free throw and added a basket before the half ended. Martinez and Vasquez made a hoop each. Kettner chipped in three free throws. The Mules trailed 27-15 at the half. 

Del Toro had the hot hand for the Mules in the third quarter with a pair of treys and a hoop. Kettner put back a rebound, and Martinez chipped in a free throw. The Mules had cut one point off the Shallowater lead. The Mules trailed 37-26 with one quarter left to play. 

Del Toro made four free throws in the last quarter. Astorga made two free throws and added a hoop. Villa scored the Mules final basket. 

Del Toro led the Mules with 13 points. Astorga added six points. Sierra and Kettner dropped in six points each. Martinez finished with three points. Villa and Vasquez made two points each. 

The Mules traveled to Lubbock Roosevelt Tuesday to play the Eagles and will travel to Littlefield to battle the Wildcats Friday night. The Mules will host Idalou February 14 for the final game of the season.

The Mules fell behind in the first period and could never make up the lost ground. The Mules lost to Slaton 58-32 Monday evening. 

The Mules were trailing 8-0 before Jacob Barron drove the baseline for a basket. Derek Barron sank a trey from the corner to cut the Tigers’ lead 5-10. Jimmy Villa and Aaron Venzor each had scored before the first quarter ended. The Mules trailed 16-9. 

D. Barron stole a Tiger inbound pass and drove for a basket. Villa hit from the elbow. J. Barron chipped in a free throw and putback an offensive rebound to cut the Slaton lead to 21-16. Venzor scored to beat the buzzer. The Mules trailed 26-18 at the half. 

Villa made a pair of free throws to open the second half. Cristian Bustillos sank a hoop and later chipped in a free throw. Kelan Florez put back an offensive rebound and Villa scored the Mules final basket. The Mules were down 49-27 with one quarter left to play. 

D. Barron chipped in a free throw to start the final quarter. Villa made the Mules only basket and Florez made a free throw. 

Villa led the Mules with 10 points. D. Barron added six points, and J. Barron dropped in five points. Venzor made four points. Bustillos and Florez scored three points each. 

The Mules hosted Friona Monday night for their final home appearance and will travel to Shallowater February 13 to close out the season.

The eighth-grade Mules made a run at the Slaton Tigers in the second period, but the Mules came up short in the game. The Mules went down to defeat 31-20.

Joe Gutierrez made the Mules first basket less than a minute into the game. Cesar Enriquez drained a 3-pointer. The Mules trailed 8-5 after one quarter. 

Gutierrez scored on a fast break to get the Mules started in the second period. Eli Macias had dropped in a pair of hoops before Gutierrez made the Mules final basket that put the Mules on top 13-12 at the intermission. 

Slaton shut out the Mules in the third quarter and poured in 17 points for a 29-13 lead with one period left to play. 

Joey Martinez chipped in a free throw to start the final quarter. Gutierrez had added a charity toss before Riley Kettner nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing. Martinez scored the Mules’ final basket. 

The Mules hosted Friona Monday for the Mules last home appearance, and they will travel to Shallowater to close out the season February 13.

7th Mules vs. Slaton (1-30-2017)

Full court pressure by the seventh-grade Mules in the final period allowed them to overtake the Slaton Tigers. Daniel Avila stole the Slaton inbound pass after the Mules had scored and gently put the ball above the rim and off the glass for the go-ahead basket. 

Avila scored with 45 seconds left in the game with the Mules leading 20-19. The Mules won the game 22-20. 

Jeremiah Barron made all four of the Mules’ first period points. Josh Estraca took an assist from Avila and scored late in the second quarter. Chupi Fabela chipped in a free throw. The Mules trailed Slaton 8-7 at the intermission. 

Slaton outscored the Mules in the third period 6-4 to lead the Mules 14-11. Barron kept the Mules close with two hoops. 

Barron opened the final frame with the Mules first two baskets and free throw to tie the game at 16-16. Avila put the Mules ahead 18-16 with a hoop at the two-minute mark. He again put the Mules ahead 20-19 with 45 seconds left on the clock. Zack Hasley scored the Mules final basket for the win. 

Barron set the Mules scoring pace with 13 points. Avila scored all four of his points in the final period. Estraca and Hasley scored two points each. Fabela chipped in one free throw. 

The Mules hosted Friona in their final home game Monday night and will travel to Shallowater to close out their season February 13.

The Muleshoe Powerlifting team participated in the Dimmitt Powerlifting meet Saturday. Not only did the team lift weights six members of the team also picked up individual medals. 

Brianna Barron earned the silver medal in the 114-pound weight class. She had a squat lift of 225 pounds, bench pressed ninety pounds and finished with a dead lift of 250 pounds for a total of 565 pounds. 

Lourdes Escalante also won the silver medal in the 165-pound weight class. She made a squat lift of 220 pounds, bench pressed 105 pounds and made a dead lift of 265 pounds for a total of 590 pounds.

Noa Rojas squat lifted 265 pounds, bench pressed 115 pounds and deadlifted 250 pounds for a total of 630 pounds. 

Michael Lozano picked up the silver medal in the 148-pound class. He squat lifted 400 pounds, bench pressed 180 pounds and deadlifted 400 pounds for a total of 980 pounds. 

Ryan Rodriguez lifted a total of 1000 pounds and earned the bronze medal in the 198-pound class. He squat lifted 360 pounds, bench pressed 210 pounds and deadlifted 430 pounds. 

Derek Barron placed fifth in the 114-pound weight class with a total weight of 470 pounds. He squat lifted 185 pounds, bench pressed 100 pounds and deadlifted 185 pounds. 

Justin Carrion made a squat lift of 260 pounds, bench pressed 170 pounds, and deadlifted 365 pounds for a total of 765 pounds. Jacob Barron lifted a total of 535 pounds with a squat lift of 185 pounds, bench pressed 125 pounds and deadlifted 225 pounds. 

Jamie Ceja participated in the 198-pound weight class. He lifted a total of 845 pounds starting with a squat lift of 315 pounds, bench pressed 190 pounds and deadlifted 340 pounds.

The Mules defeated the Dimmitt Bobcats Tuesday night to move into a tie with the Slaton Tigers for fourth place in the district. The Mules followed that with a win over the Slaton Tigers to take sole possession of fourth place with a district record of 5-4.

Dimmitt fell to the Mules 57-47 The Mules had to overcome a 10-point deficit against the Slaton Tigers. The Mules won the game 64-56.

Dagen Dunham put back a rebound for the Mules first points near the four-minute mark of the first period. He had added two more baskets before the quarter ended. Mario Flores finished a fast break with a hoop. 

Jason Florez sank a free throw. Jesse Leal made a pass to Florez breaking to the hoop for an easy layup. The Mules led 11-10 after the first eight minutes.

Florez scored with a 15-foot jumper to start the second quarter. Beto Diaz scored in the paint. Flores completed a three-point play after being fouled while scoring. Donovan Gutierrez and Tre Villa each chipped in a free throw. Florez took a feed from Dunham for a layup. Florez added two charity tosses. 

The Mules led 24-19 at the intermission. 

Florez sank a 3-pointer to start the third quarter. He had added a basket later in the period. Diaz scored with a 12-foot jumper and then stepped outside the arc for a trey. Leal finished a fast break for a hoop. Villa chipped in a free throw. The Mules led 37-30 with eight minutes left in the game. 

The Mules made nine-of-16 free throws in the final quarter. Diaz started the final period with a free throw. He put back a rebound and took feeds from Florez for two more hoops. Diaz chipped in one last free throw. 

Dunham sank a trey. Flores scored in the paint and made two free throws. Gutierrez and Florez made two free throws each and Leal dropped in one for the win. 

Florez set the scoring pace for the Mules with 16 points. Diaz scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half. Dunham and Flores dropped in nine points each. Gutierrez and Leal added three points each and Villa chipped in two points. 

Slaton scored the first 10 points of the game Friday night against the Mules. Diaz broke the scoring ice for the Mules with a free throw. He later scored on a fast break. Gutierrez took a pass from Diaz for a hoop. He added a second basket later in the period. 

Dunham made two hoops. Leal made a pair of free throws. Florez had finished a fast break before the buzzer ended the first quarter. The Mules trailed the Tigers 24-15 entering the second quarter. 

Gutierrez started the second period with a three-point play. Dunham produced three hoops before the half. Diaz patrolled the paint and scored two baskets. Florez finished a fast break. The Mules had chipped away at the lead. Slaton led the Mules 38-30 at the intermission. 

Gutierrez dropped in a trey to start the third quarter. He had added two more hoops before the quarter ended. Dunham put back a rebound and sank a 3-pointer. Florez sank a trey and Leal scored a basket. The Mules had trimmed the Tiger lead to 50-48 with eight minutes left to play. 

Leal scored the Mules first hoop. Diaz scored in the paint and tied the game at 52-52. Dunham put the Mules in front with a basket with five minutes left in the contest. Diaz sank a trey to put the Mules on top 57-54. 

Dunham took a feed from Diaz for a hoop. Diaz led a fast break for a basket. Leal chipped in a free throw, and Florez sank a pair of free throws. 

Dunham led the Mules with 19 points. Gutierrez and Diaz dropped in 14 points each. Florez added nine points, and Leal made seven points. Javy Perez chipped in one point. 

The Mules traveled to Friona Tuesday to play the Chieftains. The Mules will host the Shallowater Mustangs Friday evening.

The Lady Mules only led the Dimmitt Bobbies by two points after three quarters in Dimmitt Tuesday night. The Lady Mules sank 10 of 12 free throws in the final period to defeat the Bobbies 37-31.

Friday night the Lady Mules trailed the Slaton Tigerettes 41-36 going into the last quarter. Emily Precure saved the best for last and sank back-to-back treys to power the Lady Mules to a 51-48 win over Slaton. 

Keely Dunham hit a short jumper in the opening period against Dimmitt. Sadie Sudduth made a pair of free throws. The defensive game was tied at 4-4 after the first quarter ended. 

Precure opened the quarter with a short jump shot. She tacked on a 3-pointer later in the half. Reagan Reynolds chipped in a free throw to tie the game at 10-10. Dimmitt had scored a basket before the quarter ended. Sa. Sudduth nailed a 3-pointer as the half drew to a close, putting the Lady Mules in front 13-11. 

The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie during the third quarter. Yvonne Diaz completed a three-point play after being fouled while shooting five minutes into the third period. Sa. Sudduth made all four of her free throws. Precure dropped in her second trey of the game to end the frame. 

The Lady Mules led 23-21 with one period left to play. 

Lady Mule free throws fell like rain in the final quarter. Diaz took a feed from Sydnie Sudduth and score in the paint. Thirty-nine seconds later she was making the Lady Mules first two free throws. Diaz took a pass from across the paint from Reynolds and scored in the lane. Diaz added two more charity tosses later in the game. 

Sa. Sudduth was four-for-four from the charity line in the final minutes of the contest. Sy. Sudduth and Reynolds chipped in a free throw each. 

Sa. Sudduth led the Lady Mules with 13 points. Diaz added 11 points, and Precure dropped in eight points. Dunham and Reynolds scored two points each. Sy. Sudduth chipped in one point. 

Dunham led off the game with a free throw. She had scored two more hoops before the first quarter ended. Sy. Sudduth made two charity tosses and sank a trey from the top of the key seconds before the quarter ended. Dimmitt led the Lady Mules 13-12 after one period. 

Sa. Sudduth sank a trey to open the second frame. She had chipped in a free throw before the quarter ended. Sy. Sudduth picked a Bobbie’s pocket and drove to the hoop for a layup. Reynolds sank a baseline jumper. Lilly Barrera spotted up outside the arc and sank a trey 25 seconds before the end of the first half. The Lady Mules trailed 25-23 at the intermission. 

The Lady Mules dropped three more points behind in the third quarter. Reynolds took a feed from Dunham to score with a short jumper. Reynolds added a second hoop one-minute later. 

Sa. Sudduth sank a six-foot jumper. Dunham scored at the midpoint of the third quarter. Diaz scored in the paint and Sy. Sudduth had made a basket seconds before the third frame ended. The Lady Mules trailed 41-36 going into the last quarter. 

The Lady Mules took over the final quarter by outscoring Dimmitt 15-7. 

Sy. Sudduth sank a 15-foot jumper to start the final quarter. She was four-for-four from the charity line to finish the game. Precure sank a free throw before draining back-to-back treys. Dunham put back a rebound. 

Sy. Sudduth paced the Lady Mules with 15 points. Precure made all eight of her points in the second half. Dunham dropped in seven points each. Sa. Sudduth, Reynolds, and Diaz added six points each. Barrera sank a trey for her three points. 

The Lady Mules are currently tied with the Shallowater Fillies for fourth place at 7-4 in the district race. The Lady Mules traveled to Friona Tuesday to play the Squaws. The Lady Mules return home to host the Shallowater Fillies Friday night at 6:30 PM

The JV Lady Mules knocked off a pair of district opponents this week by defeating the Dimmitt Bobbies 37-17 and Slaton Tigerettes 39-24.

The Lady Mules traveled to Dimmitt Tuesday night to meet the Bobbies. Kyndal Miller made a 12-foot jump shot to crank up the Lady Mule offense. Maddison Price sank a short jumper. Brianna Barron led a fast break for a layup.

Natalie Diaz made a short jumper. Natali Elizalde stole a Bobbie pass and drove to the hoop. Reina Regalado put back an offensive rebound for the final basket of the opening period. The Lady Mules led 12-5 after one period. 

Abriana Mendoza chipped in a pair of charity tosses to start the second quarter. Barron made a pair of free throws, hit a 10-foot jumper, and put back a rebound. Elizalde made one free throw. The Lady Mules led 21-9 at the half. 

The Lady Mules kept up the smothering defense in the second half. Miller sank a jump shot to begin the second half. She later added a layup. Price chipped in a free throw. Diaz scored in the paint and put back a pair of rebounds for six points. The Lady Mules led 32-14 with one period left to play. 

With the game in hand, the Lady Mules backed off their intensity in the final quarter. Diaz sank a charity toss. Elizalde made a layup, and Kayla Torres took a feed from Mendoza for an easy basket. 

Diaz led the Lady Mules with nine points. Barron added eight points, and Miller dropped in six points. Elizalde scored five points, and Price made three points. Torres, Regalado, and Mendoza scored two points each. 

Wheeler scored the Lady Mules first basket against the Slaton Tigerettes. She later added two more baskets. Miller took a pass from Barron and finished a fast break. Price put back a rebound. 

Barron led a fast break and later chipped in a free throw. Diaz sank a 3-pointer as the first quarter drew to a close. The Lady Mules led the Tigerettes 16-3.

Wheeler made a baseline jumper to start the second period. She later took a pass outside the arc from Torres and sank a 3-pointer. Torres made a short jumper to end the half for the Lady Mules. 

The Lady Mules led 23-5 at the intermission. 

Wheeler kicked off the second half from the Lady Mules with a 15-foot baseline jump shot. Kinsey Parker scored in the paint and Barron dribbled through the defense for a layup. The Lady Mules led 29-13 with one quarter left to play. 

Barron chipped in a free throw to start the final quarter. Parker scored in the paint with an assist from Miller. Miller scored back-to-back hoops. Torres sank a free throw and made a layup with an assist from Miller just seconds before the game ended. 

Wheeler led the Lady Mules with 13 points. Barron and Miller scored six points each. Torres added five points, Parker dropped in four points, and Diaz sank a trey for three points. 

The Lady Mules traveled to Friona Tuesday night and will return home to host the Shallowater Fillies February 3. The Lady Mules will wrap up their season on the road in Acuff against the Lady Eagles of Lubbock Roosevelt.

9th Mules vs. Dimmitt (1-23-2017)

The freshmen Mules ran out to a 14-point lead in the first half Monday evening against the Dimmitt Bobcats. The Mules held on in the second half to defeat the Bobcats 42-36.

Cristian Bustillos made a pair of charity tosses to get the Mules started one minute into the game. Kelan Florez scored two baskets while patrolling the paint late in the opening period. The Mules led 6-4 after the first quarter. 

The Mules caught fire in the second period and outscored Dimmitt 18-6. 

Ricky Diaz picked a Bobcat’s pocket and drove the floor for a layup to crank up the Mules in the second quarter. Matthew Alarcon chipped in a free throw and later made a short jumper. 

Carter McCamish sank a trey. Derek Barron stole an inbounds pass and tossed to McCamish for a short jumper. He had made five points in just 10 seconds. 

Jacob Barron nailed a 3-pointer midway through the second quarter. He later made a free throw and sank a jumper seconds before the half ended. Aaron Venzor dropped in a pair of free throws late in the quarter. 

The Mules led 24-10 at the intermission. 

J. Barron chipped in a free throw to get the Mules started in the second half. He later made a hoop. Jimmy Villa made a layup, but then the Mules went cold while Dimmitt scored six points. 

McCamish broke the Mules’ scoring drought by chipping in a free throw. Florez scored in the paint. D. Barron just beat the buzzer with a layup after making a steal. The Mules led 34-22 with one quarter remaining to play. 

D. Barron finished a fast break with just under five minutes left in the game. Elio Sanchez put back a rebound for a hoop. Villa finished the scoring for the Mules with two baskets.

J. Barron led the Mules with nine points. McCamish, Villa, and Florez scored six points each. D. Barron added four points, and Alarcon dropped in three points. Diaz, Venzor, Bustillos, and Sanchez chipped in two points each.  

The Mules traveled to Slaton Monday evening to play the Tigers and return home on February 6 to host the Braves. That will be the Mules final home appearance.

The eighth-grade Mules got off to a very slow start against the Dimmitt Bobcats Mondayevening. Cesar Enriquez sank a 3-pointer in the first period that gave the Mule their only lead at 3-2. 

Dimmitt took over the game after that and defeated the Mules 44-20. 

The Mules trailed 13-3 after the opening quarter. 

Joe Gutierrez made a steal and drove coast-to-coast early and late in the second period for a pair of hoops. Eli Macias made a basket with 2:45 left in the first half. The Mules trailed 24-9 at the half. 

Gutierrez made all five of the Mules’ points in the third quarter. He made a short jumper early in the quarter and sank a 3-pointer. The Mules trailed 33-14 with one quarter remaining to play. 

Enriquez sank his second 3-pointer of the game early in the final quarter. Gutierrez also made a trey for the Mules only six points in the last period. 

The Mules traveled to Slaton Monday evening to play the Tigers. The Mules will return home Monday, February 6, to host the Friona Braves.
