Texas State Cross-Country Meet (11-8-2014)
Evan Paez competed Saturday
in the Texas State Cross-Country Meet in Round Rock. The course is narrow with
many twists and turns. He did not medal but finished in a time of 18 minutes
15.66 seconds in a field of 150 runners.
"Evan (Paez) ran really
well at the beginning of the race and finished strong," said Coach Jalissa
King. "He had to run the three miles in conditions he does not see every
day. He represented his home town, school and himself well."
Paez had qualified for the
Texas State Cross-Country Meet on the Mae Simmons Park Course in Lubbock. He
complete the three-mile regional course in a personal best time of 17 minutes
2.56 seconds as the fifth place individual qualifier.
There were 163 boys running
in the Region I Meet from 38 schools.
Jazmine Garza competed in the
girls division of the Region I Meet. She ran against 175 girls and finished
with a time of 14:04.00. Garza did not qualify for the State Meet but will
return next year to lead the Lady Mule team as a Senior.
“Both Jazmine (Garza) and
Evan (Paez) ran very well in the Region I Meet,” said Muleshoe cross-country
coach Edie Niblett. “The best news is both runners will return next year to
compete. Evan is just a sophomore and Jazmine is a currently a junior.”
“They will both be great
leaders for our teams. We are already looking forward to next season.”
