9th Mules vs. Farwell (10-6-2016)
The Slaton Tigers could not field a freshmen team for 2016 so the
freshmen Mules went to Farwell to play the JV Steers. The game turned
into a battle in the second half. The Mules were up 20-6 at the
intermission.
The Steers battled back in the fourth period to cut the Mule lead but the Mules pulled the game out for a 28-22 win.
The Mules rushed for 157 yards and threw for 110 yards for a total
of 267 yards of offense. The Mules scored 20 points in the second
period, eight in the third quarter and eight in the final period for the
win.
Matthew Alarcon led the Mules with 16 rushes for 84 yards and one
touchdown. He completed 11 of 22 passes for 110 yards and one score.
Alarcon also scored a two-point conversion, intercepted a pass and made a
tackle. Montiel rushed 13 times for 76 yards.
Cristian Bustillos caught two passes for 24 yards with one being
for a touchdown. Damian Juarez made one reception for 36 yards and a
touchdown. Jimmy Villa had four catches for 28 yards with one being for a
touchdown. He also tacked on a two-point conversion.
Jesus Montiel had three receptions for 25 yards.
Nathan Rodriguez led the Mule defense with five tackles. Kelan
Florez made four tackles and recovered a fumble. Bustillos, Jose
Cardenas, Fernando Rivas, and Elio Sanchez finished with four tackles
each. Eddie Vasquez made three tackles and Montiel had
two stops. Villa and Steven Atwood had a tackle each.
