JV Mules vs. Slaton (10-6-2016)
The JV Mules traveled to Slaton Thursday and improved their overall
record to 3-2 and are now 1-0 in District 2-3A Division I with a 39-0
shutout over the Tigers. The Mules jumped on top early and often to lead
the Tigers 33-0 by the intermission.
The Mules split the rushing game between four players Ryan
Rodriguez led the way with four attempts for 45 yards and one touchdown.
Corbin Hardwick carried four times for 21 yards. Raul Sierra rushed
twice for 19 yards and Luke Del Toro ran three times
for a total of 16 yards and scored once.
Del Toro also completed 14 of 18 passing attempts for 272 yards and
four touchdowns spread out between six receivers. Fabian Valadez made
four receptions for 110 yards and two TDs. Sergio Solano had three
receptions for 84 yards and scored once.
The Mules racked up a total of 388 yards of offense and scored six touchdowns.
Sierra snagged four passes for 55 yards. Jacob DeLeon made two
catches for 29 yards and Jacob Kettner made two receptions for 18 yards.
Adrian Bustillos made one catch for three yards and scored a
touchdown.
Julian Astorga led the Mule defense with six tackles, forced and
recovered a fumble. Rigo Mendoza, Leonel Camarena and Rigo Mendoza made
five tackles each. Mendoza also forced a fumble.
Ryan Rodriguez made three tackles and recovered a fumble. Jose
Quintana and Luis Franco made two tackles each. Jacob Kettner finished
with one tackle and intercepted a pass.
The offensive play of the game came when Del Toro connected with Valadez for a 42-yard touchdown on the first play of the game.
The defensive play took longer to come together but the Mule
defense held Slaton to only 44 total yards of offense and gave up no
points.
