JV Lady Mules vs. Abernathy & Sundown GBB (11-7&11-2017)
The JV Lady Mules dropped their opening basketball
game of the season on the road in Abernathy 32-24 to the Lady Lopes. The Lady
Mules hosted the Sundown Roughettes Saturday morning.
The Roughettes proved to be too much for the Lady
Mules and left town with a 35-15 win.
Kinsey Parker broke the scoring ice for the Lady
Mules against Sundown with a hoop two minutes prior to the end of the first
period. Anna Phillips scored from the blocks,
and the Lady Mules trailed Sundown 9-4 after one quarter.
Perla Vasquez chipped in a two-pointer one minute
before the intermission and Valeria Carreaga added a free throw. The Lady Mules
were down 18-7 at the half.
Valeri Toscano was on the receiving end of an inbound pass and immediately drove to the
hoop three minutes into the third period. Parker picked up a loose ball near
midcourt and fired a pass to Kayla Torres on the baseline for a hoop. The Lady
Mules trailed 26-11 with one period left to play.
Phillips working on the blocks turned a scored to
get the Lady Mules started in the final period. Sundown scored one free throw
and four consecutive hoops before the game ended. Torres made the Lady Mules
final hoop at the buzzer.
Anna Phillips and Kayla Torres led the Lady Mules
with four points each Saturday morning. Perla Vasquez, Kinsey Parker, and
Valerie Toscano scored two points each. Valeria Carreaga chipped in one point.
The freshmen Lady Mules played in the junior high
gym at the same time the JV was playing in the high school gym. The freshmen
Lady Mules defeated Sundown 39-10.
The JV Lady Mules traveled to Olton Tuesday evening
and will play in the Seagraves Eagles Tournament November 16 and 18.
