B-Team Mules vs. Kermit

The Muleshoe Junior High
B-Team Mules set the tone for the game early and defeated the Kermit Yellow
Jackets 16-8 in their home opener Thursday afternoon.
The Mules won the toss and
chose to kickoff to start the game. Rocky Martinez broke up a Kermit pass on
second down. The Yellow Jackets fumbled on the next play and Jason Toscano
hopped on the ball at the Kermit 36 for the Mules.
Nick Dominguez went wide
right, stutter stepped to freeze the Yellow Jack cornerback and accelerated to
the Kermit 13 for a gain of 26 yards. Raul Sierra then kept the ball for two
yards up the middle.
Luke Leal tossed a swing pass
to Fabian Valdez wide right for four yards. Sierra again kept the ball wide
around the right side for six yards to the Yellow Jacket one. Dominguez blasted
up the middle on a one-yard touchdown run with 1:41 left in the first quarter.
Sierra tossed to Valdez for
the two-point conversion. The Mules had jumped in front 8-0.
The Mules kicked off and
Adrian Bustillos stopped the return at the Kermit 24. The Yellow Jackets worked
their way down field to the Mule 34. Dominguez plugged the middle for no gain
on first down.
An incomplete pass was
followed by a bad snap that cost the Yellow Jackets 12 yards to the Mule 46.
Dominguez blitzed and dropped the quarterback for a seven-yard loss on fourth
down.
The Mules ran a reverse on
first down and Rocky Martinez scooted 47 yards for a touchdown with 37 seconds
left in the first half. Leal tossed to Martinez for the two-point conversion
and the Mules led 16-0 at the half.
Kermit attempted an onside
kick to start the second half but Brian Ginez covered the ball for the Mules at
midfield.
Keaton Myers went wide left
on second down. He broke three tackles and walked a tight rope down the Mule
sideline for a 10-yard gain. The Mules worked their way to the Kermit 29 before
stalling out and being pushed back to near midfield. The Mules punted to the
Kermit 24 and there was no return.
The Yellow Jackets needed
only three plays to score from 58 yards out with 12 seconds left in the game.
The two-point conversion was good and the Yellow Jackets trailed 16-8.
Rocky Martinez led the Mules
in rushing with one carry for 47 yards and a touchdown. Nick Dominguez rushed
twice for 27 yards and a score. Keaton
Myers carried three times for 26 yards and Raul Sierra rushed three times for
10 yards. Fabian Valdez caught two passes for seven yards and one two-point
conversion. Rocky Martinez had one reception for three yards and a two-point
conversion.
Sierra was two-for-two
passing for six yards and two two-point conversions. Luke Leal connected on his
only passing attempt for four yards.
Nick Dominguez led the Mule
defense with six tackles. Rocky Martinez made four and half stops, Adrian
Bustillos and Jacob Landeros made two and half tackles each. Irvin Regalado
forced a fumble and Jason Toscano recovered the fumble.
The Mules will host the
Abernathy Antelopes Thursday afternoon at 4;00 PM.
