The Muleshoe Junior High
Mules ran away with the district cross-country championship Monday afternoon.
Six Mules came away with individual medals to assure the team win.
Ricky Diaz led the Mules
stampede and earned the individual gold medal with a winning time of eleven
minutes 57.83 seconds. Beto Mendoza raced to a bronze medal with a time of
12:37.00.
Hector Arras won the fourth
place medal with a time of 12:43.80 and Jacob Barron was steps behind for the
fifth place medal with a time of 12:55.30. Damian Juarez earned the ninth place
medal with a 13:51.70. Jose Cardenas rounded out the Mules win with the tenth
place medal with a time of 14:03.20.
“All of these young men have
done an amazing job this year,” said Muleshoe Junior High cross-country coach,
Jalissa King. “Most of them play both football and run cross country which
means putting in long practice hours. This team consisted of Damian Juarez,
Beto Mendoza, Ricky Diaz, Jacob Barron, Matthew Fullen, Jordan Spears, Micah
Rodriguez, Jose Cardenas, Hector Arras, and Garrison Bohler.”
“The Lady Mules worked hard
this year,” continued Coach King. “The team consisted of Anahi Barrera, Grace
Leal, Anzley Rodriguez, Joceline Ramirez, Valeria Carreaga, Katelyn Kelley,
Tatum Hasley, Kristina Arzola, Daizy Montiel, Danielle Moran, and Didi
Esquival.
Anahi Barrera earned the
individual bronze medal by running a time of 13:51.7. Joceline Ramirez took the
eighth place individual medal with a time of 14:45.30.
