Lady Mules vs. Shallowater & Dimmitt (1-26&29-2016)
The Lady Mules had a tough final week of January with losses to both the
district leading Shallowater Fillies and the third place Dimmitt Bobbies. The
Lady Mules had a good first period against Shallowater but the Fillies owned the
game after that to defeat the Lady Mules 61-32.
The Lady Mules played the Bobbies much closer and led briefly several
times. The Bobbies nailed a pair of treys in the final period to defeat the Lady
Mules 28-25. Dimmitt made eight 3-pointers, two free throws and only one
two-pointer.
Conley Niblett made one of her two free throws early in the first period
for the Lady Mules first point. Sadie Sudduth made a steal and drove the floor
for a lay up. Yvonne Diaz took a cross-lane pass from Niblett to score from the
blocks.
Desi Gutierrez line up a trey and pulled the trigger 40 seconds before the
first period ended. Brittney Mendoza finished a fast break just before the first
period ended. The Lady Mules trailed 12-10 after the first eight minutes of the
game.
Sa. Sudduth made a pair from the charity line to tie the game at 12-12 five
seconds into the second period. Reagan Reynolds took a pass from Niblett for a
fast break hoop. Diaz scored in the paint and Sa. Sudduth made a lay up. Emily
Precure finished a fast break.
Shallowater out scored the Lady Mules 22-10 in the second period to claim a
34-20 half time advantage.
The Fillies out ran the Lady Mules 27-12 in the second half.
Sa. Sudduth paced the Lady Mules with eight points. Sydnie Sudduth made
seven of eight free throws in the second half for her seven points. Niblett and
Diaz dropped in four points each and Gutierrez finished with three points.
Mendoza, Reynolds and Precure chipped in two points each.
Sa. Sudduth made one free throw to start the Dimmitt game Friday night.
Niblett made one hoop for the Lady Mules three first period points. Dimmitt hit
a pair of treys and one hoop to lead the Lady Mules 8-3 after one
quarter.
Reynolds finished a fast break to start the Lady Mules second period. Sa.
Sudduth made a pair of free throws. Precure finished the quarter with a fast
break lay up. The Bobbies made two more 3-pointers to hang on to a 14-9
lead.
Sy. Sudduth sank a 3-pointer to crank up the Lady Mule offense in the third
quarter. Fifteen seconds later Sy. Sudduth tied the game at 14-14 with a pair of
free throws. Niblett stuck back an offensive rebound to put the Lady Mules in
front for the first time.
The Bobbies made a pair of treys before Sa. Sudduth hit from behind the
arc. She gave the Lady Mules a 21-20 lead at the end of the third period with a
pair of free throws.
The Bobbies rained down two last treys in the fourth period along with two
free throws for the win. Precure tied the game at 23-23 with a short jumper from
the baseline. Mendoza chipped in two free throws and the Lady Mules could not
score again in the game.
Sa. Sudduth led the Lady Mules with eight points and Sy. Sudduth finished
with five points. Precure and Niblett dropped in four points each. Reynolds and
Mendoza chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules traveled to Littlefield Tuesday to battle the Lady Cats. The
Lady Mules will stay on the road and travel to Friona Friday February 5 to play
the Squaws. They will wrap up their regular season February 9 when they host the
Tulia Hornets.
