7th Mules vs. Idalou (9-22-2016)
The seventh grade Mules found themselves locked in a defensive battle
Thursday night against the Idalou Wildcats. The Mules gave up 12 points in the
second period and that proved to be all the scoring in the game.
Idalou won the night 12-0 over the Mules.
Juan Nava kicked off for the Mules to the Wildcat eight-yard line to open
the game. He then raced downfield to make the tackle at the Idalou 15.
Idalou ran 10 plays and consumed the entire first quarter. They had marched
the ball from the Wildcat 15 to the Mule 11. The Wildcats scored on the first
play of the second period. The two-point conversion attempt failed and Idalou
led 6-0 with 6:54 left in the first half.
Following the Idalou kickoff the Mules fumbled and the Wildcats recovered
on the Mule 27.
Jeremiah Barron made the stop after a five-yard Idalou gain. Zachary Hasley
and Victor Morales teamed up for a tackle after a two-yard gain. Morales and
Alex Regalado sacked the quarterback for no gain on fourth down to give the
Mules the ball.
The Mules were intercepted at the Mule 30 and Joseph Estraca made the stop
at the Mule 20.
The Mule defense stepped up with Mark Espinoza chasing down the quarterback
after a five-yard pickup. Evan Lopez made the tackle after a three-yard gain.
Nava shot the gap for a sack. Ever Ramirez and Evan Lopez teamed up to sack the
quarterback for a one-yard loss on fourth down.
The Mules took over on downs at the Mule 18. Barron kept wide left and
danced down the sideline for eight yards. A holding penalty set the Mules back
10 yards on third down and were intercepted on fourth down.
The Wildcats scored with five seconds remaining in the first half to take a
14-0 lead over the Mules.
Nether team could find the end zone in the second half.
