9th Mules vs. Idalou (9-22-2016)
The freshmen Mules trailed for most of the game on the road in Idalou
Thursday evening but came back for the win in the fourth period. The Mules
defeated the Wildcats 24-20.
The Mules fell behind 14-6 in the first quarter and cut the lead to 20-18
in the second period. The Wildcats held that advantage until the final period
when the Mules took the lead for good.
Matthew Alarcon rushed 12 times for 63 yards and completed six of 15
passing attempts for 151 yards. He rushed for one touchdown and passed for three
more. He made one tackle and forced a fumble.
Jose Cardenas made three receptions for 56 yards and two of those catches
were for touchdowns. He made seven tackles, forced and recovered a fumble. Jesus
Montiel carried nine times for 49 yards, caught three passes for 38 yards with
one being for a touchdown. He made two tackles.
Damian Juarez rushed once for three yards, made eight tackles, intercepted
one pass, forced and recovered a fumble. Kelan Florez made one catch for six
yards and made two tackles. Jimmy Villa made two receptions for 40 yards.
Cristian Bustillos made four stops. Fernando Rivas, Nathan Rodriguez and
Eddie Vasquez recorded three tackles each. Elio Sanchez made two stops and
Steven Atwood made one tackle.
The Mules are open this week but will be back in action October 6 when they
travel to Slaton to open district play against the Tigers at 5:00 PM.
