7th Mules vs. River Road (10-18-2017)
The seventh-grade Mules hosted the River Road
Wildcats Thursday afternoon and were slow to leave the gate. The Mules ran out
of time as they began to hit on all cylinders to fall 12-8 to the visitors.
River Road kicked off with just over two minutes
remaining in the game. Frankie Reyes returned the kickoff 21 yards to the Mule
48-yard line. Noah Deleon carried for 10 yards. Irvin Torres found F. Reyes open on the right side for five a yard gain.
Torres kept up the middle for four yards. F. Reyes
carried wide around the left before cutting upfield for a 33-yard touchdown run
with 57 seconds remaining in the game. Torres blasted up the middle for the
two-point conversion to cut the Wildcat lead to just four points.
The Wildcats took advantage of an early break. A
student-body sweep gained the Wildcats 11 yards. River Road scored on a 22-yard
run up the middle to take a 6-0 lead with 1:19 left in the opening quarter. Nic
Reyes plugged the whole to stop the two-point conversion.
Neither team could find the end zone, until the
final period. The Wildcats drove 55 yards in 11 plays to score on a three-yard
run with 2:08 left in the game. Torres blitzed to sack the quarterback and stop
the two-point conversion.
The Mules will travel to Friona Thursday to play the
Braves.
