JV L.Mules vs. Tulia (1-7-14)
It took the JV Lady Mules a full three quarter to dig themselves out of the
hole they had opened in the first period. They had fallen behind 11-6 in the
first quarter. The Lady Mules shaved a single point off the Tulia lead in the
second period.
The Lady Mules turned up the defense in the second half and held Tulia to a
single basket in the third quarter and three points in the final period to bring
home a 29-23 win.
Brittney Mendoza scored back-to-back baskets in the first period and
Jasmine Garza added a hoop. The Lady Mules trailed 11-6 after one period.
Garza, Dessiree Gutierrez and Yasmine Sandoval made a basket each in the
second period to trail Tulia 16-12 at the half.
Emily Precure caught fire in the third period. She made a pair of hoops and
drained a trey from the wing for seven of the Lady Mules’ eight third period
points. Garza chipped in a free throw.
Garza came roaring out of the gate in the final quarter and scored three
baskets in the final period. Precure popped the net from behind the arc for her
second trey of the night.
Garza set the scoring pace for the Lady Mules with 11 points and Precure
was right behind with 10. Mendoza made four points, Gutierrez and Sandoval
chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules took Tuesday off but return to action Friday night when they
host the Friona Squaws.
