Lady Mule Softball vs. River Road (3-9-2018)

The Lady Mules hosted one of the areas leading teams Friday afternoon. River Road has outscored most of their opponents by double digits. The Lady Mules held the River Road Lady Cats to five runs in seven innings but lost the game 5-3.

The first Lady Cat to the plate popped out to Brianna Barron at second base. The next two batters singled and scored on Lady Mule errors. Clarissa Rejino struck out a batter for the second out, and a ground ball to Emili Mora turned into an out when she tossed to Melody Moran at first base.

Mora dropped a one-out single on the leftfield line. An error on the pitcher allowed Rejino reach first and Mora went to second base. Jillian Rojas sent a swinging bunt down the third baseline that scored Mora and Rejino went to second. The Lady Mules trailed 2-1 after one inning.

Rejino struck out the first batter she faced in the second inning and the second battler lined out to Mora at shortstop. Rejino scooped up a dribbler back to the circle and fired to first for the final out of the top half of the second inning.

Moran tripled to the fence in left-center field to lead off the bottom of the second inning and scored on a base hit up the middle by AB Mendoza. The Lady Mules had tied the game at 2-2 after two innings.

Neither team scored in the third inning, but River Road scored two runs on a walk and a home run in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Cats added one run in the top of the sixth inning with a double to centerfield and a Lady Mule error.

The Lady Mules final run came in the seventh inning. Moran slammed her second triple of the day off the fence in right field. She scored on a sacrifice by Mia Reyna.

Rejino struck out three Lady Cats during the contest. Moran led the Lady Mule offense with two triples and scored two runs. Mora had one hit and scored one run, and Mendoza had one hit.

The Lady Mules will play Estacado and Sanford-Fritch on the road March 16 and 17. The Lady Mules return home March 17 to play the Brownfield Cubs at no
