JV Lady Mules vs. Littlefield & Tulia (1-28 & 31)
The JV Lady Mules could not seem to buy a basket in the final period in
Littlefield against the Lady Cats. The Lady Mules lost 34-29.
The Lady Mules returned home to host the Lady Hornets of Tulia. The Hornets
felt the frustration the Lady Mules had been carrying around all week. The Lady
Mules squashed the Hornets 46-14.
Angie Perez sank a 3-pointer in the first period against the Lady Cats.
Emily Precure made a long lay up and Yasmine Sandoval chipped in a pair of free
throws.
Sasha Esparza sandwiched a free throw between a pair of baskets in the
second quarter. Perez made a free throw as did Precure. Sandoval again made two
from the charity line. The Lady Mules trailed the Lady Cats 20-16 at the
half.
Marissa Reyes got the Lady Mules started in the third period with a basket.
Dessiree Gutierrez cut the Lady Cat lead to 23-21 with an old-fashion
three-point play and Precure made a basket. The Lady Mules had trimmed the Lady
Cat lead to 26-25.
Esparza made the first Lady Mule basket to tie the game at 27-27 and
Gutierrez picked off a Lady Cat basket and drove the floor for a hoop. That was
the final tally for the Lady Mules.
Esparza led the Lady Mules in scoring with seven points and Sandoval added
six. Precure and Gutierrez dropped in five points each. Perez made all four of
her points in the first half and Reyes chipped in two points.
Points were hard to come by in the opening period against Tulia. Reyes
opened the game for the Lady Mules with a basket and Brittney Mendoza nailed a
3-pointer at the buzzer. The Lady Mules led Tulia 5-3 at the quarter
break.
Mendoza’s trey seemed to ignite the Lady Mule offense. Gutierrez made a
freed throw to start the second quarter. Jasmine Garza dropped in a free throw
and Esparza drove the paint for a basket and later chipped in a free
throw.
Sandoval stole a pass and drove the floor for a basket. Perez beat the
buzzer with a baseline jump shot. The Lady Mules had built up to a 14-8
lead.
The Lady Mules seemed to catch fire from behind the arc in the third
quarter as Mendoza, Gutierrez and Sandoval each made a trey. Garza made
back-to-back baskets and Esparza made a free throw.
Reyes made two free throws and Marilyn Melendez put back a rebound.
Sandoval’s trey came just ahead of the buzzer. The Lady Mules led 34-14 and did
not appear ready to turn back any of their lead.
The Lady Mule defense held Tulia scoreless in the final quarter while
pumping in 12 points.
All of the Lady Mules scored in the game and Esparza and Reyes led the way
with eight points each. Sandoval added seven points and Mendoza dropped in six
points. Garza made five points and Gutierrez had four points. Zoe Apodaca,
Perez, Precure and Melendez chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules completed their season in Abernathy against the Lady Lopes
before moving to their Spring sports.
