Lady Mules vs. Abernathy (2-4-14)
The Lady Mules closed out their basketball season on the road in Abernathy
against the Lady Lopes. The Lady Mules were playing for pride while Abernathy
had slim hopes of securing the fourth spot in the playoffs.
The Lady Mules owned a 9-7 lead at the end of the first period after both
teams got off to a very slow start but firing away from behind the arc. The Lady
Lopes broke the scoring ice with a trey almost half way through the opening
period.
Adrienne Precure answered a minute later and Daniela Diaz put the Lady
Mules ahead with back-to-back 3-pointers. The Lady Mule defense held Abernathy
to just two baskets in the second period while the Lady Mules built a 20-11 lead
by the intermission.
The Lady Lopes returned to the floor a different team and out scored the
Lady Mules 32-12 in the second half to defeat the Lady Mules 43-32.
DonAnn Rempe opened the second period with a basket for the Lady Mules.
Precure and McKenna Dunham made two free throws each. Rempe converted a free
throw to finish a 3-point play and put back a rebound to cap a seven-point
quarter.
Precure tied the game at 22-22 with the Lady Mules first basket of the
second half with 3:15 left in the third quarter. She also made three free throws
for all five Lady Mule points in the quarter and hang on to a 25-23 lead.
The Lady Lopes exploded for 20 fourth period points with 10 coming from the
charity line, four from inside the arc and six from behind the 3-point
line.
Rempe was fouled while shooting and converted one free throw almost two
minutes into the final frame. Sadie Sudduth scored from inside the arc with a
pull-up jump shot. Dunham added a pair of baskets.
Precure led the Lady Mules in scoring in her final game of her high school
career with 10 points. Rempe completed her career as a Lady Mule with eight
points and Dunham closed out her career with six points. Diaz made all her six
points with the two treys in the first period. Sa Sudduth will return next
season and she chipped in two points.
The Lady Mules will now move on to their Spring Sports.
