JV Mules vs. Olton & Dimmitt (1-21&24)
The JV Mules traveled Olton Tuesday evening and jumped out to a 17-7 lead
over the Mustangs in the first half. The returned after the half and continued
to pour it on and defeated the Mustangs 43-19.
The Mules returned home Friday night to host the Dimmitt Bobcats. The Mules
leaped out of the gate in the opening period and stayed close through the next
two quarters. The Bobcats took down the Mules in the final frame to leave with a
55-43 win.
JJ Gandara scored the Mules first basket on a fast break in Olton with 2:28
left in the first period. Keagan Gonzales put back and offensive rebound for two
points and Tony Castillo hit a 15-foot jump shot. Roman Franco hit a free throw
and the Mules led 7-3 after one quarter.
Franco scored with five minutes left before the half. Kevin Mendoza,
Gonzales and Antonio Vasquez each made a hoop in the second quarter and the
Mules led 17-7 at the intermission.
Tristian Boehning got the Mules rolling in the third period and added a
second basket before the quarter ended. Gonzales, Castillo, Bryce Mauricio and
Dustin Smith made a basket each. The Mules had pushed their lead to
29-11.
Franco finished a fast break to get the Mules rolling in the final quarter.
Mendoza, Castillo and Boehning made a hoop each and Gandara made a free throw.
Aaron Ross dropped in a three pointer.
Castillo led the Mules with eight points and Gonzales and Boehning added
six points each. Franco dropped in five points and Vasquez and Mendoza finished
with four points apiece. Gandara and Ross had three points each and Mauricio and
Smith chipped in two points each.
Franco began the game against Dimmitt with a three-point play and added a
basket before the period ended. Castillo dropped in a three pointer from the
wing and Mendoza added a hoop. Gonzales scored inside and Vasquez made a basket
before knocking down a trey. The Mules led 17-14 after one quarter.
Castillo made a hoop and added a free throw in the second period. Mendoza
and Vasquez made a hoop each but Dimmitt scored 13 points to take a 27-24 lead
by the intermission.
The Mules chipped one point off the Bobcat lead in the third period with
Vasquez making a pair of baskets. Franco, Castillo and Boehning dropped in a
hoop each and Mendoza made a pair of charity tosses. The Mules trailed 38-37
with seven minutes left to play in the game.
The Bobcats ran away from the Mules in the final period. Mendoza led off
with a basket and Castillo made a trey. Franco chipped in a pair of free
throws.
Vasquez and Castillo led the Mules with 11 points each, Franco added nine
points and Mendoza dropped in eight points. Gonzales and Boehning chipped in a
two points each.
The Mules traveled to Littlefield Tuesday night to battle the Wildcats and
will return home Friday to host the Tulia Hornets.
