JV Lady Mules vs. Olton Fillies (1-21-14)
The JV Lady Mules traveled to Olton on Tuesday night and rounded up the
Fillies. The Lady Mules served notice early that they were serious and out
scored Olton 15-10 and then held the Fillies to just three points in the second
period to lead 27-13 at the half.
Just when it appeared the Lady Mules could not draw their defense any
tighter they shut the Fillies down to a single point while adding 13 to their
total. The Lady Mules went on to defeat the Fillies 55-25.
Emily Precure dropped in a 3-pointer five seconds into the opening period.
Yasmine Sandoval made back-to-back baskets and Angie Perez got the ball to Sasha
Esparza for her first basket. Esparza then put back and offensive rebound and
was fouled shooting. She converted the free throw for a to complete a
three-point play.
Marilyn Melendez received the pass from Zoe Apodaca and she finished a fast
break. Jasmine Garza made a free throw and the Lady Mules led 15-10 after one
quarter.
Precure led off the second period with a trey. Marissa Reyes finished a
fast break that Apodaca started with a pass to Reyes. She added a second hoop
before the period ended. Esparza put back a rebound for points and Marilyn
Melendez scored in the paint. Apodaca chipped in a free throw to give the Lady
Mules a 27-13 lead at the half.
Esparza started the third quarter with a hoop and added two more hoops
later in the period. Garza drained a trey and Apodaca and Reyes added a basket
each to extend the Lady Mule lead to 40-14.
Angie Perez hit a 3-pointer to open the final quarter. Precure made her
third trey of the game and drove the floor for a hoop. Apodaca, Garza and Reyes
added a hoop each and Brittney Mendoza chipped in a free throw.
Esparza set the scoring pace for the Lady Mules with 13 points and Precure
added 11 points. Reyes dropped in eight points, Garza made six points and
Apodaca had five points. Sandoval and Melendez scored four points each, Perez
finished with three points and Mendoza chipped in one point.
The Lady Mules traveled to Littlefield to battle the Lady Cats Tuesday
evening and return home January 31 to host the Tulia Hornets. The Lady Mules
will wrap up their season in Abernathy against the Lady Lopes.
