7th Mules vs.
River Road (10-8-2015)
The seventh grade Mules
continued to roll Thursday evening with their fifth win of the season and first
win in district play. The Mules blanked the River Road Wildcats 38-0.
Mario Guardado kicked off for
the Mules to start the game and Kurt Rodriguez hustled down field to make the
tackle at the Wildcat 21.
It was three and out for the
Wildcats. Joe Gutierrez fielded the Wildcat punt at the River Road 37 and
scooted to the end zone for the Mules’ first score. Gutierrez added the
two-point conversion for an 8-0 Mule lead with 3:36 left in the opening period.
The Mules kicked off and
pushed the Wildcats back seven yards to force a second River Road punt. The
punt was allowed to roll dead on the Wildcat 44.
Joe Martinez ran through a
tackle as he rounded the corner on the left side and raced 44 yards for a
touchdown. Gutierrez tossed to Guardado in the end zone for the two-point
conversion and a 16-0 Mule lead with 1:33 remaining in the first period.
The Wildcats fumbled the
ensuing Mule kickoff and Martinez covered the ball for the Mules at the Wildcat
31.
Gutierrez rolled out to pass
but pulled down the ball and scooted 31 yards for a touchdown. Gutierrez passed
to Riley Kettner for the two-point conversion and a 24-0 Mule lead with 1:10
still in the first period.
The Mule defense again held
the Wildcats motionless following the Mule kickoff and forced a River Road punt
to start the second quarter.
Gutierrez connected with
Matthew Fabela for 26 yards to start the drive. Gutierrez scrambled the final
19 yards for a touchdown and a 30-0 Mule lead with 2:23 left in the first half.
Dmetri Ramirez grabbed the
River Road onside attempt and dropped to the turf at the Mule 47 to start the
second half. Kettner kept the ball and rolled wide left for 27 yards. Garrison
Bohler carried wide right and avoided a pair of tacklers for four yards.
Kettner scored from 17 yards
out for the Mules final TD. Bohler added the two-point conversion to end all
scoring.
