JR High Mules vs. Abernathy (10-1-2015)

The Muleshoe junior high Mules swept the Abernathy Antelopes Thursday evening. The seventh grade Mules are 4-0 on the season with a 36-6 win over the Antelopes. The eighth grade Mules are also 4-0 with a 22-20 defeat of the Antelopes.

The B-team Mules are 2-0-1 with a 12-0 shutout of the Antelopes that got the evening started. Ozzy Nunez put the Mules ahead with a touchdown run. Aaron Venzor added the Mules second TD. Beto Mendoza recovered an Abernathy fumble.

Joe Gutierrez hustled the seventh grade Mules off to a quick start with a touchdown run. Joey Martinez added the two-point conversion. Gutierrez added a second TD. Martinez tacked on the third touchdown and Mario Guardado caught a two-point conversion pass. 

Martinez intercepted an Antelope pass and raced to the end zone for a touchdown. Gutierrez ran in the Mules’ final TD and Martinez tacked on the two-point conversion.

Kurt Rodriguez picked off an Antelope pass. Guardado caused and recovered a fumble.

Elio Sanchez was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes from Damian Juarez to put the eighth grade Mules on top. Hector Arras punched in the final touchdown for the Mules and Juarez added a pair of two-point conversions.

Nathan Rodriguez forced two Abernathy fumbles. Juarez, Jesus Montiel and Sanchez each caused an Antelope fumble. Jose Cardenas recovered five of the Abernathy fumbles. Cristian Bustillos intercepted an Antelope pass and recovered a fumble. Julian Elizalde also snagged an Abernathy pass.

The Mules will open district play Thursday when they host the River Road Wildcats. The B-team game will start at 4:00 PM, the seventh Mules take the field at 5:00 PM and the eighth grade Mules will kickoff at 6:15 PM.
