The Lady Mules placed fourth from a field of 16 teams in the Amarillo Rebel Run Saturday morning. Three freshmen girls lead the way for the Lady Mules with Liliana Martinez finishing sixth with a time of 14 minutes and one second.

Alyssa Wheeler placed 13th with a time of 14:40 and Dellany Martinez had a time of 14:49 for 19th place. Other members of the team were Jasmine Garza, Mireya Ruvulcaba, Jennifer Cervantes, and Brianna Barron. There were a total of 114 runners in the varsity division.

The Mules finished 11th from 18 teams with 132 competitors. Evan Paez lead the Mules with a 31st place finish in a time of 18:16. Running with Paez this week was Eduardo Panjota, Jacob Kettner, Edyy Elizalde, Coleman Preston, and Rejino Sanchez.

“This was a really big meet with some great competition for my kids,” said Muleshoe High School‘s cross-country coach, Eddie Niblett. “We only have two more meets before district.”

“This season has flown by. I am overwhelmed most days that the majority of my kids that started our season are still running with us. Sometimes circumstances out of their control cause us to be short handed. I am very proud of all the runners for continuing to work so hard and support each other on a daily basis.”

The JV Lady Mules ran eighth out of 14 teams. Ricarda Elizalde lead the Lady Mules by placing 45th with a time of 16:28. There were 214 girls in this race. Also running in the meet were Reina Regalado, Citlalli Vargas, Kyndal Miller, Ab Mendoza, Sophie Reyna, and Lillie Barrera.

The JV Mules were 11th out of 16 teams. Jose Nava, a freshman, placed 32nd from 149 runners with a time of 19:41. Also running Saturday was Jesse Leal, Malachi Rodriguez, Kevin Gonzales, and Fabian Valadez.

The teams will compete Saturday in the Sundown Roughneck Cross-Country Meet. The first gun sounds at 9:00 AM. The final meet prior to the District 2-3A Meet will be the Abernathy Antelope Cross-Country Meet October 10, 2015.
