Lady Mules vs. Dimmitt Softball

The Lady Mules traveled to
Dimmitt Saturday to open district play with a 14-4 win over the Bobbies. The
Lady Mules shortened the game to just six innings on the run rule.
Mireya Ruvalcaba drew a
one-out walk on four straight pitches and stole second base. She scored on a
double to leftfield by Sasha Esparza to put the Lady Mules in front to stay.
Esparza stole third base.
Reagan Reynolds took the
count full before drawing a walk. She went to second on a passed ball and
Esparza scored. Felicity Sena walked and Brittney Mendoza singled over second
base to score Reynolds and put the Lady Mules on top 3-0.
Two ground outs, a walk and a
strike out put the Bobbies back on defense.
Noa Rojas too the count full
before walking to leadoff the second inning. Crystal Flores also walked and
Ruvalcaba reached on an error by the first baseman. Esparza slammed a double to
left field to score Rojas, Flores and Ruvalcaba.
Reynolds sacrificed Esparza
to third with a bunt down the first baseline. Esparza scored on a single to
left field by Sena. The Lady Mules led 7-0 after one and half innings.
Neither team scored in the
third inning.
The Lady Mules added two runs
in the fourth inning with Ruvalcaba drawing a leadoff walk. She went to third
on a single to center field by Esparza. Esparza stole second base and Ruvalcaba
stole home on the throw to second. Esparza advanced to third on the return
throw to home plate.
Esparza stole home to put the
Lady Mules on top 9-0.
A walk, an error and a base
hit scored the first two Bobbie runs. Rojas accounted for all three outs in the
inning. She charged a ground ball and tossed to Esparza for the first out.
Rojas field a fly ball for the second out and scooped up another ground ball
for the final out.
The Lady Mules only got the
one of the runs back in the fifth inning. Flores lined a home run just to the
left of the scoreboard. The ball never got higher than the flag pole as it
zipped over the fence.
The Bobbies could not score
in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Lady Mules led 10-2.
Esparza’s hitting streak
ended in the top of the sixth inning but she reached first on an error as the
shortstop bobbled the groundball and went to second on the throw wide of first
base. Reynolds doubled to deep leftfield to score Esparza. Sena walked and
Mendoza was hit with a pitch. Denisse Ramirez slammed a fly ball to deep
centerfield that sacrificed home Reynolds. Mendoza worked her way to third base
and scored on a single by Brooklyn Beall. The Lady Mules had increased their
lead to 14-2.
Back-to-back errors by the
Lady Mules allowed two Bobbies to score in the bottom of the six inning to the
Lady Mule lead to 14-4 but a ground ball to Rojas at second base ended the game
on the run rule.
The Lady Mules hosted the
Littlefield Lady Cats Tuesday at 5:00 PM and will travel to Shallowater on
Saturday April 9 to play the fillies at noon.
