8th grade Lady Mules Track @ Abernathy (3-27-14)
The eighth grade Lady Mules slipped down to fifth in the six-team Antelope
Relays at Abernathy. Tulia, Abernathy, Post and Lubbock Roosevelt finished ahead
of the Lady Mules and Floydada trailed.
Conley Niblett won the Lady Mules first bold medal of the day by clearing
four feet four inches in the high jump. Brianna Barron placed sixth in the same
event at 4-0. Niblett earned the silver medal in the long jump with a leap of
13-10.
Jennifer Orozco placed sixth in the first race of the day, the 2400-meter
run with a time of 11 minutes 56.12 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay team of
Kimberly Lopez, Melody Moran, Liliana Barrera and Barron finished fourth with a
57.44.
Cassidy Cage and Yvonne Diaz won the silver and bronze medals in the
800-meter run with times of 2:52.69 and 2:52.76 respectively. Barrera earned the
silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.14 and Lorena Balderas
placed sixth with a 21.48.
Barron placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.82. Nancy
Martinez ran a silver medal time of 1:15.29 in the 400-meter dash with a 1:15.29
and Orozco placed fourth with a 1:17.53.
Brianna Velasquez finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 1:03.81.
Niblett finished her trifecta of medals by winning the bronze medal in the
200-meter hurdles with a time of 30.01.
Cage won her second silver medal of the day in the 1600-meter run with a
time of 6:36.84. The 4x400-meter relay team of Velasquez, Niblett, Nancy
Martinez and Diaz ran a bronze time of 4:56.31.
The Lady Mules competed in the District 2-2A Meet back in Abernathy on
Saturday. That was the final meet of the year for the Lady Mules.
