L.Mule Softball vs. Abernathy (4-7-14)
Miranda DeBruin paced the Lady Mules offensively against
Abernathy by going four-for-four at the plate and scoring four runs. Sasha
Esparza also provided offensive punch at the plate with four hits on five plate
appearances that included one home run and scored two runs.
The Lady Mules defeated Abernathy 12-6 to stay undefeated in
district and improved their record to 7-0.
Adriana Lopez and Marissa Cortez were both hit by a pitch in
the first inning to put Lady Mules on first and second base. DeBruin singled to
right field to score Lopez. Esparza doubled to center field to bring home both
Cortez and DeBruin.
Brittany Mendoza singled to left field to score Esparza for
a 4-0 Lady Mule lead after one inning.
The Lady Mules added five more runs in the second inning.
Reagan Reynolds reached first to lead off the second inning when the second
baseman committed an error. Cortez tied the second baseman in knots for a
second error to put runners at first and second.
Amber Lopez doubled to left and scored Reynolds and Cortez.
An error on the first baseman put DeBruin on first and moved A. Lopez to third.
Esparza knocked a home run to clear the bases and scored three more runs and
extended the Lady Mule lead to 9-0.
Abernathy came back in the bottom of the inning to score
four runs and cut the Lady Mule lead to 9-4 after two innings.
Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth inning.
DeBruin led off the inning with a single to left field. Esparza brought her
home with a double of the fence in right field. Abernathy could not score and
Lady Mules led 10-4 with one inning left to play.
A. Lopez hit a two-out double to left field and advanced to
third with out a throw. DeBruin singled to left to score the run. Mendoza
doubled off the fence in left to score DeBruin for the Lady Mules final run.
Abernathy added two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Mules hosted the Floydada Lady Winds Tuesday to end
the regular season. The Lady Mules have clinched the District 2-2A Championship
and will start their playoff run against the fourth place team from District
1-2A.
