Lady Mule Softball vs. Abernathy & Littlefield (3-25&29-14)
It took the Lady Mules seven innings to defeat the Abernathy Lady Lopes 8-3
Tuesday afternoon. It was the second time the Lady Mules had dropped the
Lopes.
Diamond Lopez was two for three at the plate for the Lady Mules and Marissa
Cortez kept the Lopes off the bases with 13 strikeouts. Neither team could score
in the first two innings but finally Abernathy pushed a run across in the top of
the third inning.
The Lady Mules jumped back in front in the bottom half of the inning by
taking advantage of an error and four base hits. The Lady Mules took a 4-1 lead
in the inning and never gave it back.

Miranda DeBruin was a perfect three-for-three at the plate with singles in
the first and third innings. She doubled in the fourth inning. She walked twice
and scored four runs.
Cortez set down one batter in each of the innings she pitched and blasted
doubles in the first and fourth innings. DeBruin came in relief in the fifth
inning, struck out one and slammed the door on the Cats.
Against Abernathy an error allowed Brittany Mendoza to reach in the bottom
of the third inning. She went to second on the error and moved on the third on a
wild pitch. A single to right field by D. Lopez scored Mendoza to tie the
game.

hit. A throwing error by the catcher allowed Loya to move to third base. Cortez’
line drive to left field was caught but Loya scored after tagging up.
Amber Lopez walked and DeBruin’s fly ball sacrificed A. Lopez to second
base. She scored on Sasha Esparza’s ground ball single through the hole to put
the Lady Mules on top 4-1 after three innings.
The Lady Mules did not look back after that and added four more runs in the
bottom of the fourth inning.
Littlefield went in order in the top of the first inning. A bunt fly back
to Cortez sent the first batter back to the bench. The second batter went down
swinging and a fly ball to Mireya Ruvulcaba in right field ended the top half of
the first.

first inning. D. Lopez drew a walk and Loya reached on an error at first base.

bounced off the pitcher and bounced into center field and scored Cortez.
Esparza walked on four pitches. Sam Vasquez singled to left field to score
DeBruin and Esparza and put the Lady Mules on top to stay at 5-0. The Lady Mules
added two more runs in the second inning on a triple by A. Lopez, a walk by
DeBruin and a double by Esparza.
Littlefield finally got a run in the top of the third inning on a single
and a sacrifice. The Lady Mules did not score in the third inning and

balls, two hit batsmen and eight hits to generate the runs.
DeBruin came on in relief in the top of the fifth and struck out the first
batter she faced on three pitches. An error allowed a base runner but Gabi
Chavez stabbed a line shot down the first baseline for out number two.
A ground ball to second was scooped up by Samantha Vasquez and tossed to
Chavez for the final out of the game.
