7th Mules vs.
Abernathy (10-2-2014)
The seventh grade Mules
battled the full game but did not match up Thursday evening with the Abernathy Antelopes.
The Antelopes defeated the Mules 32-0.
Abernathy got off to a fast
start with a 75-yard kickoff return 15 seconds into the game. The two-point
conversion was good and the Antelopes led 8-0.
Nathan Rodriguez returned the
ensuing kickoff 14 yards to the Mule 44 after plowing through an Antelope.
Hector Arras went up the middle for seven yards. The Mules lost a fumble on
second down at midfield.
Cristian Bustillos made the
stop after just a one-yard gain. Abernathy scored on a 49-yard run with six
minutes left in the first period. Abernathy led 14-0 after the two-point
conversion failed.
The Mules were forced to punt
and the Antelopes took advantage of a short field. Abernathy scored on a
four-yard run with seven minutes left in the half. The Antelopes had extended
their lead to 20-0.
The Mules went three and out
with Rodriguez punting to the Abernathy 49.
Jose Cardenas made
back-to-back stops that only netted Abernathy three yards. Rodriguez made a
tackle for no gain. The Antelopes were left facing fourth down and five-yards
needed for a first down.
The Antelopes punted to the
Mule 11. Abernathy led 20-0 at the half.
Back-to-back bad snaps after
the Abernathy kickoff gave the Antelopes the ball on the Mule six-yard line.
It only took the Antelopes
two plays to score with 5:13 remaining in the third quarter. Cardenas made the
tackle to halt the two-point conversion. The Antelopes led 26-0 with 5:13 left
in the third quarter.
Abernathy scored a minute and
a half into the final quarter.
The Mules will take the long
bus ride to River Road to battle the Wildcats in the district opener at 5:00
PM.
