8th Mules vs. Dimmitt
(1-5-2015)
The eighth grade Mules only
trailed by a single point when the first half ended. Adjustments at the
intermission allowed the Mules to take over in the second half and roll to a
37-25 win.
Ryan Rodriguez scored in the
lane to start the game. Dimmitt made a free throw and later in the quarter
added basket to lead the Mules 3-2. Ean Hasley made a 15-foot jump shot from
the elbow. Dimmitt chipped in a free throw to tie the game at the end of the
first period tied at 4-4.
Luke Del Toro drove the lane
for a hoop after Dimmitt had scored to open the second period. Izaiah Hurtado
drove the baseline and made a reverse lay up to answer a Dimmitt score to tie
the game at 8-8.
Luke Leal made a pass to
Hasley on the baseline for a basket to keep the game tied. The two teams
exchanged baskets but the Mules missed a charity toss at the end of the half to
trail 16-15.
The Mule defense held Dimmitt
scoreless in the third period until near the 2:20 mark. Hurtado had been a
terror and scored three baskets in the span of 90 seconds early in the third
quarter.
Hasley again hit from the
elbow and Josh Torres picked off a Bobcat pass at mid court and drove the floor
for a hoop. Vasquez made a pair of charity tosses and the Mules led 27-18 with
one period left to play.
Del Toro sank a running jump
shot to start the final frame. Rodriguez followed on a fast break and put back
the missed shot. Vasquez answered a Dimmitt basket with a 10-foot jump shot.
Brady Martinez drove the lane
and dished to Vasquez for the easy basket. Rodriguez turned in the lane for the
final basket of the game.
Hurtado led the Mules with
eight points with six coming in the third quarter. Vasquez, Rodriquez and Del
Toro finished with six points each. Hasley made five points. Torres, Ethan
Villa and Brady Martinez chipped in two points apiece.
The Mules played in the
Levelland Lobo Tournament January 8 and 10. Littlefield host the Mules Monday
evening and the Mules travel to Friona January 19 and return home January 26 to
host the Tulia Hornets.
