Lady Mules vs. Dimmitt
(4-12-2016)
The Lady Mules just squeaked
by the Bobbies of Dimmitt Tuesday afternoon despite Victoria Villalobos
pitching a three-hit shutout game. She only gave up one walk and the Lady Mules
only committed one error.
But the Lady Mules bats
seemed to be ice cold and they never had more that one hit in an inning. The
Bobbie pitcher walked 12 Lady Mules, hit one with a pitch, struck out one and
Dimmitt committed one error. The Lady Mules left 15 runners stranded on
base.
The Lady Mules walked in two
runs in the bottom of the first inning. That was the only two runs to score
during the contest.
Villalobos pitched a ground
ball to the first Bobbie batter she faced. Brittney Mendoza charged the ball
and fired a strike to Sasha Esparza for the first out of the game. The next
Bobbie was called out on strikes and the third grounded out to Esparza at first
base.
Crystal Flores dropped a
leadoff pop fly just out of the infield behind the shortstop. By the time the
shortstop tracked down the ball Flores was standing on second base. She was
caught attempting to steal third base.
Mireya Ruvalcaba took the
count full before drawing a walk and Esparza followed with a walk. Reagan
Reynolds also drew a walk and Mendoza was hit by a pitch to force Ruvalcaba
across the plate for the Lady Mules first run.
Melody Moran walked to force
Esparza home for a 2-0 Lady Mule lead after one complete inning.
It only took Villalobos three
pitches to get the first strike out of the second inning. The second batter
line the ball right back to Villalobos for the second out. A slow roller turned
into an infield hit for the Bobbies. A pop fly was handled by Villalobos for
the third out.
An error by the Bobbie second
baseman allowed Brooklyn Beall to reach first base. She went to second on a
sacrifice bunt by Flores and she went to third on a passed ball. Ruvalcaba
walked for the second time during the game. The next two Lady Mules flew out to
left field to end the inning.
The Bobbies only managed to
put three runners on second base and only one reached third during the game.
The Lady mules left the bases
loaded in the third and fourth innings. They also left two runners on base in
the fifth and sixth innings but could score no more runs.
The Lady Mules went to
Littlefield Saturday morning. Their bats were a bit more active and defeated
the Lady Cats 15-4 to improve to 4-1 in district play. The Lady Mules only loss
was to the Shallowater Fillies.
The Lady Mules traveled to
Shallowater Tuesday to determine the District 2-3A champion. The Fillies have a
record of 5-0 and the Lady Mules are 4-1. Both team have clinched a spot in the
Texas State Playoffs.
The Bi-District game is
tentatively scheduled for Saturday April 30 at a time and location to be
determined.
