Lady Mules vs. Shallwater (4-20-2016)
Rain postponed the Lady Mules
softball game in Shallowater Tuesday afternoon. The game was rescheduled for
9:00 PM Wednesday night. The reason for such a late start was because the Area
Track Meet was finishing up on Wednesday afternoon and some of the athletes
were involved in both sports.
Crystal Flores gave up 11
hits to the district leading Shallowater Fillies, walked none, struck out none
but the Lady Mules stranded nine Fillies on base. Three Lady Mule errors
allowed Shallowater to score four runs in the bottom of the third inning. The
Lady Mules lost to the Fillies 6-0.
The Lady Mules had no hits and
only one base runner due to a walk. A double play quickly ended the Lady Mules
only threat to score in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Mules sent the
minimum amount of batters to the plate.
Brittney Mendoza scooped up a
ground ball at third base and threw across the diamond to Sasha Esparza at
first base to get the first Filly batter of the game out. The second batter
lined out to Flores in the pitching circle. The final batter of the inning flew
out to Reagan Reynolds in center field.
A single and a double by the
Fillies scored one run in the bottom of the second inning. A pop fly down the
first baseline was caught by Esparza for the first Filly out. Mendoza charged a
groundball and threw to first for the second out. Victoria Villalobos fielded a
groundball to second base for the final out of the inning.
The error bug bit the Lady
Mules in the third inning and allowed four Fillies to score after the first two
Fillies were out. Only one other Filly scored after that. A fly ball to left
field was tracked down by Brooklyn Beall for the final Filly out of the game.
The Lady Mules will play the
third place Childress Lady Cats in a best two-of-three games for Bi-District
April 29 and April 30.
