MJHS Tennis @ Dist (5-3-2016)
The seventh and eighth grade
Lady Mule and Mule tennis teams traveled to Plainview Tuesday for the District
2-3A Tennis Tournament. Muleshoe sent 31 athletes to the tournament and they
competed in 40 matches.
Friona, Tulia and Shallowater
also sent teams.
“The team came home with four
District Championships, two silver medals, three bronze medals and two four
place finishes,” said Muleshoe tennis coach, Jody Wood. “The eighth grade team
finished second and the seventh grade team finished third.”
“It was a beautiful day with
lots of medals for Muleshoe.”
The teams are coached by Jody
Wood and Jalissa King.
The eighth grade boys doubles
team of Derek Barron and Kelan Florez won the District Championship by
defeating Shallowater 8-2, a second Shallowater team 9-7 and a third
Shallowater team 8-5.
Carter McCamish and Jacob
Landeros lost to Shallowater 4-8.
In boys singles, Esteban
Lozano lost to Shallowater 0-8 and Tyler Moeller fell to Tulia 0-8.
The mixed doubles team of Mia
Reyna and Osvaldo Nunez defeated Chloe Villa and Jimmy Villa 8-3 and lost to
Shallowater 2-8 for the silver medal.
Jill Rojas and Jesus Montiel
defeated Tulia 8-2, lost to Shallowater 4-8 and defeated C. Villa and J. Villa
8-3 for the bronze medal. C. Villa and J. Villa defeated Friona 8-5, but lost
to Reyna and Nunez 3-8 and Rojas and Montiel 3-8 for forth place.
Jade Fabela won the bronze
medal in girls singles. She defeated Tulia 8-3, lost to Shallowater and bounced
back to defeat a second Tulia player 8-4.
Perla Vasquez and Anahi
Sandoval won the gold medal in girls doubles . The defeated Friona 8-4,
Shallowater 8-3 and Anna Phillips and Adriana Mora 9-8. Anna Phillips and
Adriana Mora earned the silver medal by defeating Tulia 8-6 before losing to
Vasquez and Sandoval 8-9.
Eli Macias and Garison Bohler
won the gold medal in the seventh grade boys doubles. The defeated a
Shallowater team 8-2, a second Shallowater team 8-6 and a Tulia team 8-6.
Dmetri Ramirez and Victor Velasquez was defeated by Tulia 6-8.
Kristina Arzola and Joey
Martinez won the gold medal in seventh grade mixed doubles. They defeated Tulia
8-5, a second Tulia team 8-3 and a Shallowater team 8-6.
Braden Shipman lost to
Shallowater 2-8 in boys singles and Carina Sianez lost to Tulia 4-8 in girls
singles.
Grace Leal and Katelyn Kelley
earned the bronze medal in girls doubles. They defeated Tulia 8-1, lost to a
second Tulia team 4-8 and finished by defeating Karely Vasquez and Jazzy
Sanchez 8-5. Vasquez and Sanchez placed fourth. They defeated Tulia 8-0,
Shallowater 8-3 but fell to Tulia 3-8 and Leal and Kelley 5-8.
