MHS Tennis @ District Meet (
4-11-2016)
The District 2-3A Tennis Meet
was held in Plainview Monday. The Mules and Lady Mules did not qualify any
members of the team for the Region I Meet that will be held in Abilene April 18
and April 19.
But the JV Lady Mules and
Mules had nine entries that came home with medals.
Competing along with Muleshoe
in Plainview was Dimmitt, Friona, Littlefield Tulia and Shallowater.
Cassidy Cage led the varsity
by winning the bronze medal in Varsity Girls Singles. She defeated Littlefield
6-0, 6-0 but fell to Shallowater 1-6, 3-6. Cage defeated her teammate, Denisse
Ramirez 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Ramirez defeated Friona 6-1,
6-1 in Girls Singles before losing to Littlefield 1-6, 0-6 and to Cage 1-6,
6-1, 3-6.
Jesse Leal placed fourth in
Varsity Boys Singles. He defeated Shallowater 6-3, 6-2 but lost to Tulia 1-6,
1-6 and Friona 2-6, 3-6. Kevin Mendoza lost to Shallowater 3-6, 3-6.
The Varsity Boys Doubles team
of Jason Florez and Donovan Gutierrez lost to Shallowater 3-6, 7-6, 6-7 by
losing a tie breaker 9-11. Dominik Hasley and Ean Hasley lost to Shallowater
3-6, 1-6.
The Varsity Girls Doubles
team of Gloria Gonzales and Imelda Salcido lost to Shallowater 1-6, 2-6.
Marissa Reyes and Jasmine Garza defeated Littlefield 6-1, 7-5 but lost to
Shallowater 3-6, 1-6.
The Varsity Mixed Doubles
team Zoey Apodaca and Aaryn Ross placed fourth by defeating Shallowater 6-3,
6-4 but fell to two teams from Tulia 1-6, 4-6 and 4-6, 3-6. Hallie Myatt and Jacob Kettner lost to
Shallowater 1-6, 0-6.
Luke Leal got the JV team
medal rally started by winning the JV Boys Singles gold medal. He defeated
Friona 8-1, Tulia 8-4, Shallowater 8-6, Yavet Elizalde 8-4.
Elizalde claimed the silver
medal by defeating Tulia 8-2, Friona 8-3, Raul Sierra 8-3 before losing to Leal
4-8. Sierra finished fourth by defeating Tulia 8-6, Friona 8-3 before losing to
Elizalde 3-8 and Shallowater 5-8.
Sophia Sianez won the gold
medal in the JV Girls Singles. She defeated Littlefield 8-0, Laura Chavez 8-4
and Tulia 8-2. Chavez won the bronze medal by defeating Tulia 8-5, Friona 8-6
but lost to Sianez 8-4 and came back to defeat Dimmitt 8-6. Brianna Barron
defeated one Tulia player 8-3 but lost to a second Tulia player 2-8.
The JV Boys Doubles team of
Javy Perez and Tre Villa placed fourth by defeating one Tulia team 8-2 but lost
to a second Tulia team 3-8. They lost to Shallowater 8-9 by losing a tie breaker
9-11. Kobe Gutierrez and Kevin Chavez lost to Tulia 4-8.
Ethan Gonzales and Ricardo
Torres defeated Shallowater 8-6 but lost to Tulia 1-8. Evan Paez and Mario
Flores lost to Tulia 4-8.
The JV Girls Doubles team of
Lily Barrera and Conley Niblett won the gold medal by defeating Tulia 8-3,
Friona 8-6,
Noemi Herrera and Jackie
Rayas 9-7. Herrera and Rayas earned the silver medal by defeating Friona 8-1,
won a tie breaker, 8-6, to defeat Shallowater 9-8, a team from Muleshoe 8-5
before losing to Barrera and Niblett 7-9.
Anghy Avilez and Xiomara
Regalado took the bronze medal by defeating Tulia 9-7, but lost to a Muleshoe
team 6-8 and came back to defeat Friona 8-3 for the medal.
The JV Mixed Doubles team of
Dezzy Gutierrez and Antonio Vasquez won the gold medal by defeating Tulia 8-2,
won a tie breaker 7-4 to defeat Rachelle Whitworth and Izaiah Perez 9-8 and
Shallowater 8-1.
Whitworth and Perez earned
the bronze medal by losing a tie breaker 8-9 to fall to Gutierrez and Vasquez
8-9 but came back to defeat Dezzy Gutierrez and Antonio Vasquez 8-2.
Erika Arzola and Jesse
Easiley placed fourth by defeating Natalie Diaz and Isaac Mendoza 8-4, lost to
Shallowater 6-8 and Whitworth and Perez
2-8. Alee Sanchez and Aron Chacon lost to Shallowater 5-8 and Diaz and Mendoza
fell to Arzola and Easiley 4-8.
