Mules & Lady Mules @ Area

The Mule track team placed
third in the Area Meet held in Tulia with 92 points. Childress won the meet
with 132 points and Shallowater was second with 109 points. Dimmitt, River
Road, Spearman, Sanford-Fritch, Friona, Highland Park, Tulia and Littlefield
followed in that order.
The Lady Mules placed seventh
in the Area Meet with 34 points. Shallowater won the meet with 170 points,
Spearman was second with 101 points and Littlefield was third with 91. Highland
Park, Tulia and Friona placed in front of the Lady Mules. Sanford-Fritch, River
Road, Dimmitt and Childress finished behind the Lady Mules.
The top four places in each
event qualified to participate in the Region I Track Meet that will be held
April 29 and April 30 on the Abilene Christian University track.
“They sure did make us proud,”
said Mule track coach Wes Wood. “Both our boy’s and girl’s teams represented
Muleshoe in utmost fashion. We hope folks will congratulate these athletes when
they see them.”
The Mules qualified seven
athletes in nine events for the Region I Meet and the Lady Mules will send six
athletes in four events.
Cesar Olvera was the first
Mule to not only qualify for the Region I Meet but also medaled in two events.
He won the silver medal in the shot put with a heave of 44 feet nine and half
inches. He followed that with the bronze medal in the discus with a throw of
130-04.00. Jaxon Lee placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-10.50.
Evan Paez won the Mules first
medal on the track in the first race of the meet. He ran a bronze medal time of
10 minutes and 44.13 seconds. Joe Waggoner cleared the gold medal height of 13-00.00
in the pole vault but because of a miss earned the silver medal.
Aaryn Ross had a silver medal
leap of 5-10 in the high jump. Danny Campos and Michael Lozano tied for sixth
place in the high jump with a height of 5-07.
The 4x100-meter relay team of
Beto Diaz, Yoel Reyes, Tre Villa and Campos ran a bronze medal time of 44.78.
Ross earned the bronze medal in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.172. Diaz
placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.501.
The 4x200-meter relay team of
Diaz, Dagen Dunham, Campos and Ross finished with a bronze medal time of
1:32.296. Paez won the bronze medal with a time of 4:55.015 in the 1600-meter
run. Jacob Kettner placed sixth in the 1600 with a time of 5:03.109.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Reyes, Villa, Dunham and Ross ran away with the silver medal with a time of
3:30.751.
Liliana Martinez won the Lady
Mules first medal of the meet in the first race of the day. She ran a 12:42.990
for the silver medal in the 3200-meter run. The 4x200-meter relay team of
Blanca Ramirez, Jazmin Arellano, Kyndal Miller and Mireya Ruvalcaba placed
fourth with a time of 1:51.705.
Martinez picked up her second
medal of the meet with a bronze medal time of 5:55.403 in the 1600-meter run.
Ramirez, Conley Niblett,
Miller and Ruvalcaba ran a bronze medal time of 4:16.843 in the 4x400-meter
relay.
