JV L. Mules vs. Idalou (1-20-2017)
The JV Lady Mules got the Muleshoe fans to their feet Friday night in Idalou. The Lady Mules trailed the Idalou Lady Cats 10 points going into the final eight minutes of the game.
Briana Barron and Alyssa Wheeler took over the game for the Lady Mules. Barron made a series of steals and was fouled on her way to the hoop. She made three of six free throws and sank one layup.
Wheeler put back a pair of missed free throws and took a dish from Barron for a short jump shot. Barron then made back-to-back layups and completed an old fashion three-point play by making a free throw.
Kyndal Miller joined the fray and added a pair of layups. The Lady Mules defeated the Lady Cats 47-44.
Wheeler got the Lady Mules started with a jumper near the midpoint of the first period. She had added a free throw and finished the period with a basket. Natalie Diaz chipped in a pair of free throws and Barron finished a pair of fast breaks. The Lady Mules led 11-9 after one period.
Idalou took the advantage in the second period by outscoring the Lady Mules 17-8. Barron opened with a layup. Natalie Elizalde made a steal and drove to the hoop for a layup. She later had added a second basket. Valarie Ambriz chipped in a pair of free throws. The Lady Mules trailed Idalou 26-19 at the intermission.
The Lady Cats added to their lead in the third period by outscoring the Lady Mules 9-6.
Ambriz made all six of the Lady Mules’ points in the third quarter. She opened with a hoop, made a pair of free throws and closed out the quarter with a basket. The Lady Mules trailed 35-25 with one quarter left to play.
Barron led the Lady Mules with 16 points. Wheeler dropped in 11 points, and Ambriz finished with eight points. Miller and Elizalde made four points each. Maddison Price and Diaz chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules traveled to Dimmitt Tuesday evening to play the Bobbies and return home Friday to host the Slaton Tigerettes.
