JV Mules vs. Littlefield (1-17-2017)
The JV Mule held their own in the first half Tuesday night when they hosted the Littlefield Wildcats. But Littlefield outscored the Mules 30-18 in the second half to defeat the Mules 50.
The Mules record is now 5-9 on the season and 2-3 in district 2-3A action.
Ethan Villa started the Mules off with a hoop 22 seconds into the game. Luke Leal drained a pair of treys during the opening period for the Mules eight points. The Mules trailed 10-8 after the first eight minutes.
Julian Astorga led the Mules in the paint in the second period with a pair of hoops and three free throws. Luke Del Toro scored his first hoop four minutes into the second quarter and later dropped in a 3-pointer. The Mules had tied the game at 20-20 by the end of the first half.
Astorga put back an offensive rebound to start the Mules off in the third period. He had added a second basket by the end of the third quarter. Brady Martinez hit from just inside the arc. Jacob Kettner made one free throw and finished a fast break with a layup. The Mules had fallen behind Littlefield 36-29 with eight minutes left to play in the game.
Israel Vasquez made a free throw to open the final quarter for the Mules. Kettner chipped in a free throw, Villa made a jump shot, and Del Toro added a pair of charity tosses. Wyatt Parker chipped in a free throw, and Izaiah Perez sank a short jumper.
The Mules traveled to Dimmitt Tuesday, January 24, and return home to host the Slaton Tigers January 27.
