Lady Mules vs. Idalou & Littlefield (3-21 & 25-2017)
The Lady Mules opened District 2-3A competition Tuesday and hung on for a 6-5 win over the Idalou Lady Cats. Saturday the Lady Mules exploded on the Littlefield Lady Cats for a 15-5 five-inning win.
The Lady Mules fell behind 2-1 to Idalou in the second inning. The Lady Mules took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with two runs. Brittney Mendoza led off with a walk on four straight pitches.
Victoria Villalobos sent a ground ball by the shortstop for a single. Felicity Sena sent a sacrifice ground ball to shallow left field to advance Mendoza to third and Villalobos to second.
Melody Moran blasted a line drive single to right field to score both Mendoza and Villalobos.
Idalou tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning with one run. Melody Moran blasted a one-out single up the middle in the top of the sixth inning. She stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice by Noa Rojas. Mireya Ruvalcaba line a single to left field to score Moran and put the Lady Mules ahead for good.
Idalou went in order in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 4-3 after six complete innings.
Crystal Flores lined her fourth hit of the day up the middle for a single to leadoff the top of the seventh inning. Ahtziri Elizalde grounded up the middle for a single. Flores and Elizalde pulled off a double steal to advance to second and third bases.
Mendoza walked to load the bases with no outs. Flores and Elizalde scored on a sacrifice ground ball by Villalobos to put the Lady Mules up by three runs.
The Lady Mules hung on in the bottom of the seventh inning. The first batter grounded out to Mendoza at third base. The second batter lofted a fly to Elizalde in centerfield for the second out.
A single and a walk turned into two runs for Idalou before Noa Rojas drifted under a fly to right field to preserve the win.
Flores led the Lady Mules with a double, three singles and scored a run. Moran doubled and singled twice and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
Moran laced a shot to the fence in left center to score Villalobos for the Lady Mules fifteenth run and end the game on the run-rule against Littlefield.
Littlefield jumped on top early with one run in each of the first two innings and three runs in the top of the third inning.
The Lady Mules scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good.
Ruvalcaba lined a shot off the glove of the third baseman to open the bottom half of the third inning. She then stole second base. An error allowed Dellany Martinez to reach first base and moved Ruvalcaba to third base. Martinez stole second base on the first pitch to Flores.
Flores popped out to first base before Elizalde slammed a triple to centerfield to score Ruvalcaba and Martinez. Mendoza doubled to score Elizalde. Villalobos dribbled the ball down the third-base line for an infield single.
Mendoza scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 5-5. Madison Hasley singled to left field to put the Lady Mules on top for good Villalobos crossed the plate. Sena singled to center field, and Madison Hasley hit a line drive to right field.
Ruvalcaba’s second hit of the inning scored both Sena and Hasley to put the Lady Mules on top 8-5.
Littlefield did not collect a hit in the final two innings.
Hasley’s one-out single to leftfield in the bottom of the fifth inning spelled the beginning of the end for Littlefield. Ruvalcaba dropped a bunt in front of the plate for an infield single. Hasley was running on the pitch, and both Lady Mules were safe.
Martinez singled to right field to score Hasley. Flores walked, and Elizalde reached on an infield hit and Ruvalcaba scored. Mendoza drew a walk. A double to center by Villalobos scored Flores, Elizalde, and Mendoza.
Moran’s blast ended the game.
Ruvalcaba collected three hits and scored two runs to lead the Lady Mules. Elizalde, Villalobos, Moran, and Hasley had two hits each. Martinez, Mendoza, and Sena collected one hit each.
The Lady Mules traveled to Shallowater Tuesday to play the Fillies and stay on the road Saturday when they play the Roosevelt Lady Eagles.
