Lady Mules vs. Shallowater & Roosevelt (3-28 & 4-1-17)
The Lady Mules had a tough week losing 10-0 Tuesday afternoon to the Shallowater Fillies and the Lubbock Roosevelt Lady Eagles 7-5 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Mule bats were all but silent Tuesday against the visiting Fillies. Madison Hasley collected the Lady Mules’ first hit of the day in the bottom of the third inning.
The Lady Mules stranded three runners in the bottom of the third inning, two in the lower part of the fourth and one in the fifth inning.
The Shallowater Fillies out hit the Lady Mules 10-5.
Saturday was an up and down battle with the Lady Eagles of Roosevelt. Mireya Ruvalcaba single to left field to lead off the game. She scored on a double to right field by Ahtziri Elizalde to put the Lady Mules on top 1-0 in the top half of the first inning.
Victoria Villalobos held the Lady Eagles scoreless for three innings. She walked the first batter she faced in the game. A stolen base and a passed ball put the runner on third base. A fly ball to left field was caught by Dellany Martinez for the first out and the runner held at third.
Villalobos struck out the next batter for the second out. The fourth batter drew a walk, and the runner at third attempted to steal home, but Felicity Sena applied the tag for the third out to end the inning.
Roosevelt loaded the bases with one out in the second inning. Villalobos recorded her second strikeout of the game and a ground ball to Melody Moran at first ended the inning with the Eagles not having scored a run.
Martinez single with a ground ball up the middle to lead off the top of the fourth inning. Villalobos slammed a ball over the centerfield fence to score two runs and put the Lady Mules up 3-0.
The bottom of the fourth inning was the start of the end for the Lady Mules. An error allowed Roosevelt’s first batter to reach base that scored. The Eagles scored three runs on four hits to tie the game and give the Eagles new life.
The Lady Mules went in order in the top of the fifth inning while the Eagles scored one run on four hits to take a 4-3 lead over the Lady Mules.
The Lady Mules regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Crystal Flores singled up the middle to start the inning and then stole second base. Brittney Mendoza singled to deep right field to score Flores.
Martinez dropped a bunt single in front of home plate to move Mendoza to second. Sena sent a ground ball to deep right field to advance the runners. Mendoza was thrown out at home attempting to score from third. Martinez did steal home before the final out and put the Lady Mules in front 5-4.
Two hit batsmen and an error by the Lady Mules allowed three Eagles to score in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-5 Eagle lead.
The Lady Mules could not score in the top of the seventh inning.
The 2-2 Lady Mules hosted the Slaton Tigerettes Monday afternoon at 5:00 PM. The game was changed to Monday because of the District 2-3A track meet. The Lady Mules will host the Idalou Lady Cats Friday afternoon at 4:30 PM.
