Mules vs. Slaton (4-3-2017)
The Mules defeated the Slaton Tigers Monday 6-5. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Mules. The Mules bounced back with three runs in the fifth to claim a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to grab the lead again, but the Mules scrambled for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the game.
Slaton led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle. A ground ball to second advanced the runner. A Mule error allowed Slaton to put runners at first and third bases. A double to right scored two runs, and a triple scored the Tigers third run of the inning.
Reese Orozco sent a flare to center, and JoJo Rejino drew a walk. Ryan Rodriguez slammed a three-run homer that bounced off the top of the fence in right field.
Blake Parker walked to start the Mules’ half of the seventh inning. Villa lofted a single over the second baseman’s glove. Leonel Camarena laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner.
Jamie Ceja advanced the runners to second and third on a ground ball to third base. Matt DeLeon’s seeing-eye single zipped by the shortstop and scored both Parker and Villa for the win.
The Mules traveled to Littlefield Tuesday to play the Cats and will return home Friday April 14, to host the Shallowater Mustangs at noon.
