B-Team vs. River Road (10-8-2018)
The 3-0-1 B-team Mules opened
district Thursday evening with a 28-0 shut-out of the visiting River Road
Wildcats. The Mules kicked off to start the game and backed the Wildcats up on
three straight plays. Ozzy Nunez, Ricky Diaz and Aaron Venzor made the first
three stops for the Mules.
The Mules were called for
roughing the punter and went back to work pushing the Wildcats back. The second
punt was allowed to roll dead on the Mule 41.
Nunez kept the ball up the
middle for 12 yards. Venzor scooted wide left for five yards. Nunez connected
with Beto Mendoza for a 22-yard gain to the Wildcat seven. Nunez scooted around
the right side for the Mules’ first touchdown with 3:32 remaining in the first
half.
River Road drive started on
the Wildcat 35 after the Mules kicked off.
Victor Solano stepped in
front of a Wildcat pass and picked it off. He returned 26 yards for a touchdown
with eight seconds left in the half. The Mules led 12-0 at the intermission.
The Mules began the second
half with a drive on the Mule 37. Jose Cardenas hit the right side for 22
yards. Nunez gained 11 yards through the left side of the line. Cardenas raced
the final 30 yards to pay dirt with 13:40 remaining in the second half.
Cardenas tacked on the two-point conversion for a 20-0 Mule lead.
The Mules held on fourth down
and got the ball on the Wildcat 26. Nunez scrambled up the middle for the final
TD of the game. Nunez tossed to Bryan Hernandez for the two-point conversion to
end all scoring.
