The Mules played for pride Tuesday evening as they understood the Texas State Playoffs were out of their reach. The Mules saved their best for the final quarter of the game. The Idalou Wildcats defeated the Mules 31-44.

Brady Martinez made a free throw for the Mules first points three minutes into the game. He sank a trey from the top of the key a minute-and-a-half later. He closed out the quarter with a layup. Israel Vasquez scored from near the baseline and dropped in a trey. The Mules trailed Idalou 17-11 after one period.

The second period did not go well for the Mules. Romeo Reyes made a charity toss two minutes into the second period. Jacob Kettner scored in the paints, and Luke Leal nailed a trey in the final minute of the first half. The Mules trailed 35-17 at the intermission.

Vasquez made all three of the Mules’ points in the third period. He made a free throw near the midpoint of the quarter. Vasquez scored in the paint as the third frame drew to a close. The Mules trailed the Wildcats 47-20 with eight minutes left to play.

Wyatt Parker was fouled while shooting and made one free throw 13 seconds into the final frame. Julian Astorga chipped in a charity toss. Vasquez drove to the hoop for a layup. He later added four free throws.

Jacob Barron tickled the twin from the arc two minutes into the final quarter. Two minutes later he made a steal and drove to the hoop. Reyes nailed a trey from the corner. Martinez sank a 3-pointer. Leal made three of four from the charity line. Jacob Kettner put back an offensive rebound to close out the Mule scoring. The Mules had scored 21 points in their final quarter of the season.

Vasquez paced the Mules with 14 points. Martinez added nine points, Leal finished with six points, and Barron added five points. Kettner and Reyes had four points each. Parker and Astorga chipped in one point each.

The eighth-grade Mules surprised the Shallowater Mustangs Monday evening. The Mules outscored the Mustangs 9-4 in the final period to win the game by a score of 27-26.

Christian Fabela picked off an inbound pass and scored as the first period came to a close. The Mules trailed Shallowater 8-2 after the first period.

Dok Gardner finished a fast break to open the second period. Abraham Mendoza made a half-court pass to Victor Morales running on a fast break. Jeremiah Barron concluded the first half with a short jumper, and he sank a trey from the right wing. The Mules had cut the Shallowater lead to 16-11 at the intermission.

Barron passed to Victor Morales running on a fast break to open the third quarter. Barron drove the floor for a layup. Jacob Reyes was fouled while shooting and made one free throw. Evan Lopez cleaned up the backside by putting back the offensive rebound for a hoop. The Mules had cut the Mustang lead to 22-18 with one quarter left to play.

Jacob Reyes dropped in a 12-foot baseline jumper to open the final period. Barron was fouled driving to the hoop, and he chipped in a free throw. Barron then finished a fast break and kissed the ball off the glass for a basket.

Barron sank a trey from the near the baseline to put the Mules on top 26-24. It was the first time the Mules had led during the game. The Mules called a timeout with 20 seconds left in the game, and the score was tied at 26-26.

Morales was fouled attempting to put back an offensive rebound with three seconds left in the game. Morales made the first free throw to put the Mules ahead and missed the second to start the clock. Shallowater could not reach midcourt with the ball for a final shot.

The seventh-grade Mules closed out their basketball season with a loss to the Shallowater Mustangs. Shallowater defeated the Mules by a score of 45-17)

Cash Reeder scored the Mules only basket in the first period with an 18-foot shot from near the baseline. The Mules trailed Shallowater 10-2 after one quarter.

Elisar Cisneros dropped in a 3-pointer from the top of the key with just over two minutes left in the first half. Irvin Torres dropped in a 3-pointer from the top of the arc. The Mules trailed Shallowater 20-8 at the intermission.

Reeder opened the second half with a trey from the corner. The Mules trailed the Mustangs 20-11 with one quarter left to play.

Torres passed to Nic Reyes open in the lane for a hoop. Frankie Reyes scored on a 15-foot baseline jumper. Nic Reyes made a steal and pushed the ball ahead to Torres for a fast break layup.

Reeder and Torres paced the Mules with five points each. Cisneros added three points. F. Reyes and N. Reyes chipped in two points each.

The freshmen Lady Mules finished the 2018 basketball season with a 34-23 win over the Friona Maidens.
Destiny Florez finished a fast break to tie the game early in the first period. Two minutes later Florez again scored on a break. Jordan Zapata pushed the ball ahead to Heather Chavez to finish a fast break. Zapata saw Kaitlyn Kelley open on the blocks and passed her the ball for a short jump shot that tied the game at 8-8.
Zapata sank an eight-foot jumper. Grace Leal passed to Carina Sainez open on the blocks for an easy basket. Zapata made the final two hoops of the quarter. One was a layup and the other a 16-foot jump shot. The Lady Mules led 16-12 after one quarter.
Sainez scored from the left elbow for the Lady Mules’ only points of the second period. Friona did not score and trailed the Lady Mules 18-12 at the intermission.
Leal scored from the right elbow to open the second half. Florez sank a 17-foot jumper to end the Lady Mule scoring in the third period. The Lady Mules led 22-16 with one quarter left to play.
Daniella Moran drove the baseline for a hoop. Zapata tossed to Kelley open on the blocks for a basket. Leal finished a fast break. Leal made a cross lane pass to Florez following on a fast break. Sainez scored from the blocks to end all scoring.
Florez led the Lady Mules with 10 points. Zapata and Sainez added six points each. Kelley and Leal dropped in four points each. Chavez and Moran chipped in two points each.

The eighth-grade Lady Mules closed out the basketball season Monday evening by soundly defeating the Friona Maidens 53-10.
Kayla Soto was fouled attempting to finish a fast break and made one free throw to put the Lady Mules in front to stay 35 seconds into the game. Paige Parker finished a fast break with a layup. Natalie Ambriz stole a Maiden pass and drove the floor for a hoop. Genesis Vasquez put back an offensive rebound.
Ambriz was guilty of theft but was rewarded with a layup. She was later fouled and chipped in a free throw. Kylee Villa took a long rebound and drove the floor for a basket. Vasquez made a long pass down the floor to Kyla Sierra running on a fast break for a hoop that beat the buzzer. The Lady Mules led 14-4 after one period.
Ambriz drove to draw the defense and dished to Soto for a short jumper. Villa passed to Ambriz running on a break for a basket. Ambriz made one free throw after being fouled. Vasquez passed to Soto open on the blocks.
Villa drove the floor for a hoop. The Lady Mules led 25-7 at the intermission.
Parker passed to Soto to finish a fast break to start the third period. Ambriz made a steal and passed to Parker to finish a break. Parker drove the lane for a basket. Parker pushed the ball ahead to Vasquez for a fast break bucket.
Ambriz and Parker teamed up on a fast break for an easy hoop. Ambriz made one free throw. Villa saw Ambriz running the floor and sent the ball down the floor for a layup. Ambriz finished the quarter with two more fast break baskets. The Lady Mules had extended their lead to 42-7 after three quarters.
Ambriz drove from the right side and battled her way through a foul for a basket, and she dropped in the free throw for a three-point play. Vasquez made a steal and passed to Parker for an easy hoop. Villa passed to Vasquez to score from the blocks to end the game.
Ambriz set a fast pace for the Lady Mules with 22 points. Parker dropped in 10 points, and Soto finished with nine points. Vasquez scored six points, and Villa had four points. Sierra chipped in two points.

7th Lady Mules vs. Friona (2-5-2018)
The seventh-grade Lady Mules all but shut out the Friona Maidens Monday evening. It was the final game of the season for the Lady Mules. The Lady Mules closed out the season with a record of 12-3 by defeating Friona 37-4.
“We started a little slow,” said Lady Mule coach, Jalissa King. “But we finally got it together. We used several of the skills we had been working on in practice. This has been an absolutely wonderful team to work with this year. They have been sponges absorbing every opportunity to learn the game.
Kylie Hernandez was fouled while shooting and made one free throw near the midpoint of the first period. Araceli Diaz scored on an inbounds play to put the Lady Mules in front to stay. Kassie Kelley scored from the elbow. The Lady Mules led 5-2 after one quarter.
Friona’s final two points of the game came early in the second period. Diaz again scored on an inbounds play. Hernandez stole a Friona inbound pass, made one dribble, and kissed the ball off the glass for a hoop.
Seconds later, Hernandez scored from the right elbow. Hernandez continued her dominance by stealing a Maiden inbound pass and drove to the hoop. Raelee Garza cleaned up the backside with a putback. Hernandez hit from 15 feet from the left wing. The Lady Mules led 17-4 at the half.
Diaz passed to Kelley for an open shot from the elbow. Diaz scored on an inbounds play, and a minute late put back an offensive rebound for a hoop. Aaliyah Sanchez hit from the right elbow extended. Ashton Hardwick scored from the blocks to end the third period with the Lady Mules leading 27-4.
Hernandez pushed the ball ahead to Garza running on a fast break for a layup. Kendra Kelley passed to Diaz in the paint for a basket. Nautica Mills put back an offensive rebound. Hardwick sank a 17-foot jumper from the right wing to end all scoring.
Diaz paced the Lady Mules with 10 points. Hernandez finished with nine points. Garza had six points. Hardwick and Ka. Kelly scored four points each. Sanchez and Mills chipped in two points each.

The JV Mules defeated the Roosevelt Eagles 40-22 Tuesday evening on the Mules home floor. The Mules fell to Littlefield 48-37 Friday to close out the Mules home schedule.

The Mules opened slow against Roosevelt but came back strong in the second period to lead the Eagles 17-10 at the intermission. The second half was almost a repeat of the first.

Kelan Florez broke the scoring ice for the Mules with a drive from the left side. Bryan Ginez scored from the blocks, and Jimmy Villa chipped in a free throw. The Mules trailed 8-5 after one quarter.

The Mules clamped on the press in the second period and held the Eagles to a single basket. Derek Barron opened the second quarter with a trey from the top of the key. Later in the period, Barron sank a second trey. Christian Bustillos and Florez both made a pair from the charity line. Josh Torres dropped in a 10-foot jumper to end the half with the Mules leading 17-10.

Ginez scored from near the baseline to break the scoring ice for the Mules in the third period. Jose Cardenas chipped in a free throw. Florez and Jimmy Villa both sank 3-pointers. The Mules led 26-17 with one period left to play.

Barron drove to the hoop to start the final period. He later sank a trey and chipped in a pair of free throws. Florez scored from 15-feet. Torres chipped in a free throw and drove to the hoop. Cesar Enriquez hit from near the free throw line for the final hoop of the game.

Barron led the Mules with 13 points. Florez added nine points, and Torres finished with five points. Villa and Ginez dropped in four points each. Bustillos and Enriquez had two points each. Cardenas chipped in one point.

Cardenas chipped in a free throw to open the game against Littlefield. Ginez scored from near the blocks. The Mules trailed 11-3 after one period.

Ginez opened the second period with a hoop from the blocks. Ricky Diaz made a pair of free throws and sank a trey from the top of the key. Villa sank a trey from the wing. Florez took an outlet pass and drove the floor for a layup. He later drove the left side for a layup. The Mules trailed 25-17 at the intermission.

Barron made a pair of free throws to open the third period, and he later drove the lane for a layup. Villa scored from 12 feet to end the third period with the Mules trailing 30-23.

Ginez opened the final period with a shot from the blocks. He later added a second hoop. Enriquez sank a 3-pointer from the right wing, and he sank a pair of free throws. Villa made a driving layup. Barron ended the game trey from the right wing.

Ginez paced the Mules with eight points. Barron and Villa finished with seven points each. Enriquez and Diaz made five points apiece. Florez made four points, and Cardenas chipped in one point.

The Mules wrapped up their season on the road at Idalou Tuesday evening against the Wildcats.

The Mules struggled in the second half Tuesday when they hosted the Roosevelt Eagles. The Mules played much better Friday night against the Littlefield Wildcats. The Mules fell to Roosevelt 62-44 and Littlefield 50-41.

Israel Vasquez was fouled while shooting and made one free throw to open the first period for the Mules. Later in the period, he dropped in a 15-foot baseline jumper. Romeo Reyes sank a trey from the top of the key. Izaiah Perez put back a rebound. The Mules trailed Roosevelt 10-8 after one quarter.

Luke Del Toro opened the second period with a pair of free throws. Reyes sank a teardrop from baseline. Jacob Kettner and Ethan Villa chipped in a free throw each. Brady Martinez sank jump shot from near the free throw line. Luke Leal drove the lane for a hoop and sank a trey from the wing to end the first half. The Mules trailed 22-21 at the intermission.

Leal opened the second half with a 3-pointer from near the baseline. Martinez dropped in a 15-foot jumper. Vasquez chipped in a pair of free throws and scored in the paint. Reyes hit back-to-back treys in the final minute of play. The Mules trailed 47-36 with one quarter left to play.

Del Toro dropped in a 16-foot jump shot to open the final period. Vasquez made a pair from the charity line and scored from the paint. Reyes made the Mules final two points.

Reyes led the Mules with 13 points. Vasquez added 11 points, and Leal finished with eight points. Martinez and Del Toro made four points each. Perez had two points. Villa and Kettner chipped in a point each.

Reyes led the Mules out of the gate against Littlefield with a pair of jump shots. Vasquez scored from the baseline, sank a trey from the left wing, and chipped in a pair of free throws. The Mules trailed Littlefield 18-11 after one quarter.

Reyes picked off a Wildcat inbound pass and scored. Kettner hit from inside the paint. Leal took an outlet pass and drove the floor for a hoop. Martinez picked off a Littlefield pass and drove the floor for a hoop. She drove the lane for his final hoop of the half. The Mules trailed 27-21 at the half.

Kettner made back-to-back treys from the top of the key to open the second half. Reyes added a layup to end the third quarter. The Mules trailed 43-29 with one quarter left to play.

Vasquez picked a Wildcat’s pocket and drove to the hoop to open the final period. He added a basket later in the quarter. Del Toro and Kettner chipped in a free throw each. Leal drained a pair of treys in the final two minutes of the game.
Vasquez led the Mules with 11 points. Kettner added nine points. Leal and Reyes finished with eight points each. Del Toro chipped in one point.  

“We competed with a very good team tonight,” said Mule coach Humberto Gonzalez. “I really wish we had twenty more games on our schedule.”

The Mules closed out the basketball season Tuesday evening at Idalou against the Wildcats.

The Lady Mules closed out the 2018 basketball season Tuesday evening against the Roosevelt Lady Eagles. The Lady Mules surprised the hottest team in the district by leading at the end of the first half 22-14.

Roosevelt battled back in the second half to defeat the Lady Mules 47-42.

Yvonne Diaz put back an offensive rebound to get the Lady Mules started in the first period. Brianna Barron drove the lane for a hoop. Anahi Barrera took a feed from Kyndal Miller for a hoop. She added a 12-foot jumper later in the quarter. Miller drove the baseline to end the period with a layup. The Lady Mules led 10-8 after one quarter.

The Lady Mules defense did not allow the Lady Eagles to score a hoop in the second period. Diaz scored in the paint. A. Barrera sank a pair of charity tosses and put back a rebound. She later sank a 15-foot jump shot and chipped in a free throw. Alyssa Wheeler dropped in a 3-pointer from the left wing to give the Lady Mules a 22-14 lead at the half.

Payton Brown took over the game for Roosevelt in the third period, and she scored 13 points.

Diaz took a pass from Cassidy Cage for a hoop from the baseline. Wheeler chipped in a pair of free throws. A. Barrera converted a free throw to complete an old-fashion three-point play. The Lady Mules trailed 31-29 after three quarters.

Brown continued her frenzied pace for Roosevelt 11 points in the final period. A. Barrera drove for a hoop to open the final period, and she added a pair of free throws. Keely Dunham made a pair of free throws and scored from blocks. Lilly Barrera chipped in a free throw and took a dish from A. Barrera for a layup. Miller converted a pair from the charity line.

Anahi Barrera led the Lady Mules with 18 points. Diaz finished with six points, and Wheeler scored five points. Miller and Dunham had four points each. L. Barrera made three points, and Barron chipped in two points.

The freshmen Mules jumped out to a quick start and led the Slaton Tigers 24-21 at the half. Slaton came back in the second half to defeat the Mules 34-27.
Braden Shipman put back an offensive rebound to break the scoring ice for the Mules. Victor Velasquez put back a rebound for a hoop. Cesar Enriquez nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key, and he added a free throw after being fouled on a fast break to tie the game.
Velasquez scored on an inbounds play. Joe Gutierrez led the Mules on back-to-back fast breaks. Enriquez chipped in a free throw to end the first period with the Mules leading 15-12.
Enriquez lined up a trey from the left wing to start the second period. Velasquez scored on an inbounds play and then put back a rebound. Velasquez scored in the paint to end the Mules scoring in the first half. The Mules led 24-21 at the intermission.
Velasquez made one free throw for all of the Mules’ points in the third period. Slaton led the Mules 26-25 with one period left to play.
Kurt Rodriguez and Benji Ramirez each made a free throw for the Mule points in the final period.
Velasquez led the Mules with 11 points. Enriquez added eight points. Gutierrez dropped in four points, and Shipman finished with two points. Rodriguez and Ramirez chipped in a free throw each.

The eighth-grade Mules fell to the Slaton Tigers Monday 25-17.
Daniel Avila broke the scoring ice for the Mules with a 15-foot jump shot. Jeremiah Barron passed to Avila to complete a fast break. Barron was fouled attempting to put back a rebound and made one free throw. Barron picked off a Tiger pass and drove for a layup. The Mules and Slaton were tied at 7-7 after one quarter.
Dok Gardner made the Mules only two points in the second period as he put back a rebound. The Mules trailed 12-9 at the half.
Barron grabbed a long defensive rebound and drove the floor for a layup. Barron fed Avila the ball on the blocks for an open shot. The Mules had cut the Slaton lead to 15-13 with one quarter left to play.
Avila made both free throws after being fouled while shooting. Barron put back a rebound for the Mules final points of the game.
Avila led the Mules with eight points. Barron added seven points, and Gardner chipped in two points.
The Mules traveled to Friona to play the Braves on Monday. The Mules return home to close out their season by hosting the Shallowater Mustangs.

The seventh-grade Mules got off to a slow start Monday when they played the Slaton Tigers. But the Mules came back in the second half to defeat the Tigers 34-28.
Irvin Torres made a free throw early in the first period, and he finished a fast break for a layup with just 35 seconds left in the first period. The Mules trailed Slaton 7-3 after one quarter.
Nic Reyes grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled attempting to put the ball back up. He made one of his free throws. Tate Shipman scored from the blocks. Fifteen seconds later he drove the right side of the lane for a layup.
Shipman then picked off a Tiger inbound pass and drove to the hoop to give the Mules a 10-9 lead. Frankie Reyes put back an offensive rebound, and the Mules trailed 14-12 at the half.
N. Reyes scored from the blocks to start a six-point Mule run. Torres stole a Tiger pass and drove for a hoop. Uriel Ramirez picked off a Tiger inbound pass and tossed the ball to Torres for a hoop. Torres grabbed a long defensive rebound and drove the floor for a layup. The Mules led 20-16 with four minutes left in the third period.
Elisar Cisneros was fouled while shooting and made one free throw. David McMullen drove the right side of the lane for a hoop. Torres scored on an inbounds play as time expired in the third period. The Mules led 25-23 with one frame left to play.  
Uriel Ramirez sank a baseline jump shot to start the final period. N. Reyes took a feed from Torres and scored from the blocks two minutes into the fourth period. McMullen was fouled attempting to shoot a trey. He made all three free throws. F. Reyes put back an offensive rebound for the Mules final points of the game.
Torres led the Mules with 13 points. Shipman finished with six points. McMullen and N. Reyes made five points each. F. Reyes and Ramirez added two points each. Cisneros chipped in one point.
The Mules traveled to Friona to play the Braves Monday and will return home February 12 to play the Shallowater Mustangs.

The Mules pulled one out of the fire Tuesday evening. The Mules defeated the Friona Chieftains 47-46. Friday the Mules fell to the league-leading Shallowater Mustangs 68-40.

Romeo Reyes served notice early that the Mules were ready to play when he sank a trey from the right wing. He later took a feed from Brady Martinez for a layup. Martinez used a screen from Reyes to reach the free throw line for a jump shot. He later chipped in a free throw.

Ethan Villa scored from the near the blocks. Luke Leal dropped in a 3-pointer from the top of the key just before the buzzer sounded. The Mules and Friona were tied at 13-13 after one quarter.

Izaiah Perez scored from the blocks to open the second period. Wyatt Parker made a move on the blocks to score on a short jumper. Martinez drove the lane for a hoop. Reyes put back an offensive rebound, and Israel Vasquez scored just before the half ended. The Mules trailed 22-21 at the intermission.

The Mules and Friona battled to a dead heat in the third frame. Reyes made back-to-back layups and later sank a 3-pointer. Raul Sierra dropped in a pair of jump shots. Izaiah Hurtado drove to the hoop for a layup. The Mules trailed 36-35 with one period left to play.

Vasquez sank a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to open the final period. He later added a basket from the paint.  Reyes chipped in a free throw to tie the game at 42-42. Martinez sank a trey from the left wing. Jacob Kettner made two-of-four free throws. Sierra made the Mules final point with a free throw.

Reyes led the Mules with 15 points. Martinez finished with eight points, and Vasquez added seven points. Sierra finished with five points. Leal and Kettner made three points each. Villa, Hurtado, and Parker chipped in two points each.

The Mules played an inspired first quarter against the Shallowater Mustangs Friday night. Leal nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key just before the period ended to cut the Shallowater lead to 11-10. 

Luke Del Toro dropped in a 15-foot jump shot and completed the three-point play by making the free throw. Vasquez made a short jumper from the baseline, Martinez scored from the free throw line before Leal sank his trey.

Shallowater took over the second quarter to score 21 points. Reyes hit a jump shot from the free throw line. Vasquez battled contact that was seldom called during the game. He made a 10-foot baseline jumper and converted one free throw. Del Toro scored from 15-feet and chipped in a free throw. The Mules trailed Shallowater 32-18.

Martinez, Villa, and Reyes each scored a basket after the half. Vasquez finished a fast break and sank a 3-pointer from the left wing. The Mules trailed Shallowater 55-29.

Jacob Barron nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing to start the final period. Leal drove the lane for a hoop. Vasquez converted a pair of free throws. Del Toro scored from eight feet. Izaiah Perez was fouled twice, with no call from the officials, in the final minute of play before he was able to score the Mules final basket.

Vasquez led the Mules with 12 points, and Del Toro finished with eight points. Leal had five points. Martinez and Reyes had four points each. Barron made three points, and Villa chipped in two points.

The Mules hosted the Roosevelt Eagles Tuesday evening. The Littlefield Wildcats will visit the Mules Friday evening. The Mules will close out their season in Idalou February 13 when they play the Wildcats.

The Lady Mules ended January with a 48-37 win over the Friona Squaws. The start of February was not as good for the Lady Mules. They fell to the Shallowater Fillies 69-38.

The Lady Mule defense held the Friona Squaws to three points in the opening period. Keely Dunham scored from the blocks just seconds into the game. Yvonne Diaz took a feed from Brianna Barron to score from the blocks.

Anahi Barrera finished a fast break with a layup. Kyndal Miller broke through the back door, and Dunham delivered her the ball. Barron was running on a fast break and laid the ball gently on the glass. The Lady Mules led Friona 10-3 after one quarter.

Barron picked off a Squaw pass and drove to the hoop to open the second period. She later chipped in a free throw. Brooke Garza was fouled while shooting and made one from the charity line.

Dunham scored in the paint late in the half and chipped in a free throw before the intermission. The Lady Mules led 17-11 at the half.

Lilly Barrera finished a fast break to open the third quarter. Diaz fed Dunham with a cross lane pass for a short jumper. Later Barron drove to draw the defense and dished to Dunham for the hoop.

Diaz put back an offensive rebound. Alyssa Wheeler made a steal and drove the floor for a hoop. Garza drained a pair of charity tosses. Cassidy Cage nailed a 3-pointer just before the period ended. The Lady Mules led 32-24 with one quarter left to play.

Dunham scored in the paint twice early in the final frame. Diaz chipped in a free throw. A. Barrera made a driving layup. Wheeler made five-of-six free throws. Miller made two charity tosses and then finished with a layup.

Dunham led the Lady Mules with 13 points. Wheeler dropped in seven points, and Miller added six points. Diaz and Barron finished with five points each. A. Barrera had four points. Cage and Garza made two points each. L. Barrera chipped in two points.

Points were harder to come by Friday evening against the Shallowater Fillies. L. Barrera made a short jumper in the opening period. Diaz put back an offensive rebound for only four Lady Mule points in the opening period. The Lady Mules trailed Shallowater 23-4.

Wheeler made five-of-six free throws in the second period. Dunham scored from the blocks. Diaz cleaned up the backside for a hoop. A. Barrera drove the lane for a layup. The Lady Mules trailed 36-15 at the intermission.

Diaz had the hot hand for the Lady Mules in the third quarter with four hoops. Wheeler dropped in a short jumper. L. Barrera drained a 15-foot jump shot from the wing. A. Barrera chipped in a pair of charity tosses and later made a five-foot jumper. The Lady Mules trialed 51-31 with one quarter left to play.

Barron made a pair of free throws, and Wheeler chipped in a single charity toss. Miller drove for a hoop, and A. Barrera drained a 12-foot jumper to end the game.

Diaz led the Lady Mules with 12 points. Wheeler and A. Barrera made eight points each. L. Barrera dropped in four points. Barron, Miller, and Dunham chipped in two points each.

The Lady Mules closed out the season by hosting the hottest team in the district, the Roosevelt Lady Eagles.

JV Lady Mules vs. Friona & Shallwater (1-30&2-2-18)

The JV Lady Mules split their games this past week with Friona and Shallowater. The Lady Mules hosted the Friona Squaws Tuesday. Maddison Price had the hot hand for the Lady Mules as they defeated Friona 36-29.

The Lady Mules traveled to Shallowater Friday evening and struggled to find the hoop. The Lady Mules lost to Shallowater 44-28.

Price finally got the Lady Mules started halfway through the first period against Friona. She added a second basket before the time expired. Kinsey Parker, Valeria Carreaga, and Anna Phillips dropped in a basket each. The Lady Mule defense held Friona to a single basket. The Lady Mules led 10-2 after one period.

Friona played the Lady Mules closer in the second quarter. Perla Vasquez put back an offensive rebound. Carreaga and Price each added a basket to give the Lady Mules a 16-7 lead at the half.

Price opened the third period with a 12-foot jump shot and repeated the feat three minutes later. Jordan Zapata drove the lane and scooped the ball above the rim for a layup. Jocelyn Ramirez popped the net from 15 feet. Parker made a steal and drove to the hoop for a layup. The Lady Mules led 26-17 after three quarters.

Price opened the final period with a ten-foot jump shot. She made four-of-five free throws before the game ended. Parker picked off a Friona pass and drove to the goal. She chipped in a pair of free throws.

Price led the Lady Mules with 16 points. Parker finished with eight points, and Carreaga dropped in four points. Vasquez, Ramirez, Phillips, and Zapata chipped in two points each.

Citlalli Vargez was fouled while shooting against Shallowater and she made both free throws. Valeri Toscano made a layup before Kayla Torres dropped in a short jump shot. Price added a 15-foot jump shot from the wing. The Lady Mules trailed Shallowater 15-8 after one quarter.

Parker opened the second period with a free throw. Later in the half, she stole a Shallowater pass and drove to the hoop for the Lady Mules only three points. The Lady mules trailed 27-11 at the half.

The Lady Mules brought more effort to the floor in the third period than they had in the first two quarters. Carreaga hit from eight-feet. Vargez made a layup and chipped in a free throw.

Emily Mora finished a fast break, and Parker chipped in a free throw. Toscano drove the lane for a hoop, and Anna Phillips drained a 12-foot baseline jumper. The Lady Mules had cut the Shallowater lead to 35-23.

Torres made a short jump shot to open the final period. Toscano drove the left side for a hoop, and Vargez chipped in a free throw.

Toscano and Vargez led the Lady Mules with six points each. Torres and Parker added four points each. Price, Phillips, Mora, and Carreaga finished with two points each.

The Lady Mules closed out their season at home Tuesday night when they hosted the Roosevelt Lady Eagles.
