Mule Baseball vs. Tulia & Tahoka Tourny (3-3&7-8-15)

Spring must have finally arrived as the Mule baseball team opened their home season Tuesday against the Tulia Hornets Tuesday afternoon. The Mules 10-run ruled the Hornets 12-2 in just five innings.

Dustin Smith was the winning pitcher. He gave up one hit, one walk and hit one batter but no runs crossed the plate in Smith’s three innings of work. He recorded three strike outs.

The Mules traveled to Tahoka for the Bulldog Tournament Friday afternoon and run ruled the Plains Cowboys 16-0. No statistics were available for that game.

The Mules fell to the Kermit Yellow Jackets 6-2. Wes Clarkson was the losing pitcher. He gave up three runs on six hits and the Mules committed three errors in Clarkson’s four innings of work.

The Mules bounced back in the third place game to run rule the Slaton Tigers 12-1. Smith was the winning pitcher. He gave up no runs on two hits, walked one and the Mules committed two errors in Smith’s four innings.

Braden Bessire was hit by the Tulia pitcher on his first trip to the plate. He advanced to second base on the first pitch to Beto Diaz. Nathan Rejino doubled to center field to score Bessire. The Mules led 1-0 after one inning.

Bessire ignited a five-run Mule rally in the third inning with a single to left field. He moved to second and third on consecutive passed balls. Diaz was hit by a pitch and went to second on a passed ball.

An error by the third baseman allowed Rejino to reach first base. Bessire and Diaz scored on the error. Smith was hit by a pitch and was doubled off when Pancho Elizalde lined out to the pitcher.

Clarkson reached on an error by the left fielder and Rejino scored. Danny Campos was hit by a pitch. Grey Johnson singled to left field to score both Clarkson and Campos. The Mules led 6-0 after three innings.

Bessire led off the fourth inning with a double to right center field. Diaz sacrificed Bessire to third base. Rejino drew a walk and got himself into a rundown between first and second. During the melee Bessire scored to put the Mules ahead 7-0 after four innings.

Tulia scored the Hornets two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Mules answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clarkson singled, Campos walked and Johnson reached on a throwing error by the Hornet pitcher. Clarkson and Campos scored on the play.

Jason Florez singled up the middle to score Johnson. Florez scored on a throwing error. Bessire drew a walk and stole second base. He scored on a base hit by Diaz.

Bessire had two hits and scored four runs. Diaz, Rejino, Smith, Clarkson, Johnson and Florez had one hit each.

The Mules led the Yellow Jackets of Kermit 2-1 after one inning. The Mules could generate no more offense after that. Kermit scored one run in the first inning, one in the third inning, one in the fourth inning and three in the sixth inning.

Bessire, Rejino, Clarkson and Campos scored two runs each against the Slaton Tigers.

The Mules traveled to Lubbock Roosevelt Tuesday to play the Eagles. The Mules return home Saturday to host the Sundown Roughnecks at noon.

Mule Track @ Littlefield (3-6-15)



Mule Track @ Littlefield (3-6-15)

The Mules finished sixth at the Littlefield Wildcat Relays Friday. Idalou, Levelland, Post, Littlefield and Shallowater finished ahead of the Mules. Lamesa and Lubbock Cooper were seventh and eighth.

Tony Castillo earned the bronze medal in the high jump with a leap of five feet six inches. Christian Paez placed fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes 30.01 seconds.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Josh Lopez, Tre Villa, Tony Vasquez and Jesse Easily placed fourth with a time of 45.73. Paez placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.07.

Aaryn Ross finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with an 11.64 time. Lopez, Easily, Villa and Ross teamed up in the 4x200-meter relay and ran a silver medal time of 1:37.75. C. Paez, Villa, Easily and Evan Paez placed third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:42.00.

The Mules will compete in the Shallowater Mustang Relays Thursday.  

JV Mule Track @ Littlefield (3-6-15)

The JV Mules ran sixth with 48 points in the Littlefield Wildcat Relays Friday. Idalou, Levelland, Post, Littlefield and Shallowater finished ahead of the Mules. Lamesa and Lubbock Cooper rounded out the meet.

Cesar Olvera got the Mules started with a gold medal toss in the shot put of 39 feet 9.5 inches. He placed fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 106-3. Issac Mendoza, Tim Perez and Mickey Lozano placed third, fourth and fifth in the high jump with the height of 5-4. Placing was determined by misses.

Bryce Mauricio earned the bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 17-4.25 and Lozano was fourth with a leap of 16-10.5. Jacob Kettner won the gold medal in the 3200-meter run with a time of 16 minutes 35.24 seconds.

The Mule 4x100-meter relay team of Mauricio, Joe Waggner, Lozano and T. Perez placed fourth with a time of 47.67. The 4x200-meter relay team of Lozano, Mauricio, Mario Flores and T. Perez placed fourth with a time of 1:43.62.

Kettner finished fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:33.26. The 4x400-meter relay team of Waggner, Javy Perez, Lozano and Mendoza finished fifth with a time of 4:01.

The Mules will run Thursday in the Shallowater Mustang Relays.

Lady Mules @ Wildcat Relays (3-6-15)



Lady Mules @ Wildcat Relays (3-6-15)

The Lady Mules finished fourth in the Littlefield Wildcat Relays Friday with 61.5 points. Idalou won the meet, Levelland was second and Littlefield placed third. Lamesa, Post and Lubbock Cooper finished fifth, six and seventh respectively.

Angie Perez was sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 69 feet and 8.25 inches. Marilyn Melendez leaped to a gold medal in the high jump with a height of 4-7. Dani Diaz had a bronze medal leap of 14-4 in the long jump and Ruby Andrade placed fourth in the event with a distance of 13-10.

Blanca Ramirez tied for sixth place in the triple jump with a distance of 28-5. The Lady Mule 400-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 54.17 seconds. Diaz finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.28.

The Lady Mule 4x400 meter relay team earned the bronze medals with a time of 4:32.27. The relay teams individual names were not available at press time.

The Lady Mules next meet is Thursday March 12 in Shallowater.

The JV Mules ran third with 68 points in the Littlefield Wildcat Relays Friday. Idalou and Lubbock Cooper finished ahead of the Mules. Shallowater, Post and Littlefield trailed the Mules.
