8th Mules vs.
Tulia (12-7-2015)
The Tulia Hornets could not
score against the eighth grade Mules until late in the opening period. The Mules
led 9-2 after the first period and continued to pour in the points to lead 24-8
at the half.
The Mules flew away from the
Hornets for a 39-14 win.
Jose Cardenas put the Mules
in front to stay when he nailed a trey from the corner early in the opening
period. He followed that with a two-point bucket from the elbow for a 5-0 Mule
lead.
Cardenas chipped in a free
throw after the Hornets had finally scored with just under two minutes left in
the first period. Cristian Bustillos fed Eddie Vasquez underneath the hoop for
a basket to end the first period with the Mules leading 9-2.
Vasquez put back his own shot
to start the second period. Bustillos stole the ball in the backcourt and drove
the floor for a lay up to answer the Hornets second basket of the game. Damian
Juarez chipped in a free throw between two Tulia baskets.
Jimmy Villa hit from the
baseline and Matthew Alarcon scored from the elbow. Nathan Rodriguez made
back-to-back hoops late in the half. He first hit a turn-around jumper from the
blocks and then tipped in rebound up and in for the hoop. Alarcon finished the
half with a fast break lay up to give the Mules a 24-8 lead.
The Mules out scored the
Hornets 6-2 in the third period and 9-4 in the final frame for the win.
