9th Mules vs. Dimmitt

The freshmen Mules were ready
when the Dimmitt Bobcats stepped off the bus Thursday afternoon to open the
2015-2016 basketball season. Ean Hasley scored first for the Mules. The Mules
went on to shut out the Bobcats in the first period and defeated Dimmitt 48-9.
Luis Franco scored twice in
the paint and Jacob DeLeon nailed a 3-pointer from the corner. Luke Del Toro
scored from the baseline to end the first period with the Mules leading 11-0.
Brady Martinez opened the
second period with a basket. Luke Leal was fouled and made one from the charity
line. The Mules grabbed the rebound and Leal set up in the corner and nailed a
3-pointer.
Corbin Hardwick drove the
lane and was fouled. He made both free throws to end the Mule first half
scoring leading 19-0. The Bobcats made a basket and a 3-pointer to trail the
Mules 19-5 at the intermission.
Leal passed to Hasley on the
blocks for the Mules first two points of the third period. Hasley added two
more buckets before the period ended. Del Toro chipped in a pair of free throws
and Rigo Mendoza and Izaiah Hurtado sank a basket each.
The Mules out scored Dimmitt 12-4
in the third period to lead 31-9 with one period remaining to play.
The Mule defense shut out the
Bobcats in the final period and poured in another 17 points.
Hasley set the scoring pace
for the Mules with 10 points. Franco was not far behind with seven points and
Martinez dropped in six points as did Leal. Del Toro and Hurtado added four
points each and DeLeon made three points. Hardwick, Mendoza, Julian Astorga and
Adrian Bustillos scored two points each.
The Mules traveled to
Littlefield to battle the Wildcats Monday and then go to Friona November 30 to
battle the Braves. The Mules first tournament is in Denver City December 3-5.
