JV Mules vs. Dimmitt

The JV Mules caged the
Bobcats of Dimmitt Friday night by a final score of 45-38. The Mules jumped out
to a 27-15 first half lead and then cruised in the second half for the 45-38
win.
Kevin Gonzales got the Mules
started with a basket 20 seconds into the game. Mikey Lozano second twice in the first quarter and Kevin Mendoza
nailed a 3-pointer. Tre Villa, Coleman Preston and Javy Perez each added a
basket to give the Mules a dominant 15-7 lead.
Preston took a pass from
Jacob Kettner for the opening the hoop of the second period. Reese Orozco then
dropped in a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Javy Perez chipped in a free
throw and JoJo Rejino hit a 15-foot jumper. He later chipped in a charity toss.
Eric Herrera sank a trey from the wing to give the Mules a 27-15 lead at the
half.
Dimmitt came out firing in
the third quarter and chipped one point off the Mule lead. Mendoza finished a
fast break for the Mules first hoop of the second half. J. Perez scored on a
pass from Isaiah Perez and then converted a free throw for an old-fashion
three-point play. Orozco sank his second 3-pointer of the game.
The Mules led 35-24 going
into the final period. Villa opened the final quarter with a trey from the
wing. Kettner also dropped in a 3-pointer. Orozco made two free throws as a
result of a pair of technical fouls by the Bobcats. Lozano made a steal and
drove the floor for the Mules final hoop of the game.
Orozco led the Mules in
scoring with eight points. J. Perez and Lozano finished with six points each.
Mendoza and Villa dropped in five points each. Preston added four points.
Kettner, Herrera and Rejino scored three points each. Gonzalez chipped in two
points for the Mules.
The Mules traveled to
Littlefield Tuesday night to play the Wildcats and stay on the road Friday to
play the Friona Chieftains for the second time.
