Mules vs. Slaton (1-6-2016)
The Slaton Tigers jumped out
to an early lead over the Mules Tuesday night and then held on for a 46-37 win
over the Mules. Slaton scored the first three hoops of the game. Tony Castillo
made a steal and drove for the hoop two minutes into the game for the Mules
first points.
Campos passed to Tony Vasquez
breaking to the hoop to cut the Slaton lead to 6-4. The Tigers sank a trey but
Jesse Leal answered with an acrobatic shot while being fouled. The ball fell in
and he converted the three-point play.
Castillo made a pair of free
throws and Dagen Dunham followed on a fast break and put back the rebound. When
the first period ended the Mules trailed 15-11.
The Tigers built on their
lead in the second period when they out scored the Mules 12-8 to lead 27-19 at
the half.
The Mules made a short lived
run at the Tigers in the third period as they held Slaton to just eight points.
Castillo got the Mules started with a basket and added a second before the
quarter ended.
Dunham scored in the paint
and Aaryn Ross hit a 12-foot jumper. Vasquez and Leal made a free throw each.
Slaton go the two points back in the final frame and made one point extra.
Dunham led the Mules in the
final frame with two hoops and a 3-pointer for seven points.
Dunham set the scoring pace
for the Mules with 17 points. Castillo dropped in eight points and Leal was
close behind with seven points. Vasquez finished with three points and Ross
made two.
The Mules hosted the Bovina
Mustangs Monday night and then will open district play night when they host the
Littlefield Wildcats.
