7th Lady Mules vs.
Tulia (1-25-2016)
The seventh grade Lady Mules
rolled over the Tulia Hornets 38-24 Monday afternoon. Anahi Barrera exploded
for eight points in opening period to power the Lady Mules to the win.
The Lady Mules had a good
weekend by winning consolation in the Muleshoe Invitational Eighth Grade
Tournament. They defeated the Olton Fillies 31-11 for the
Consolation trophy. Kristian
Arzola provided the Lady Mules punch against the Fillies.
Barrera started the rout of
the Hornets by sticking back a missed shot early in the opening period She
added three more hoops before the first six minutes ended. Arzola made a pair
of hoops and Tatum Hasley made one basket. The Lady Mules led 14-2 at the end
of the first period.
The Lady Mules were
consistent in scoring eight points in each of the final three periods. Hasley
opened the second period by cleaning up the backside with an offensive rebound
and put the ball back in the hoop. Daniella Moran took a pass from Barrera for
a basket.
Barrera scored on an in bound
play and chipped in a pair of free throws. The Lady Mules led the Hornets 22-10
at the half.
Barrera opened the third period
with a hoop and dropped in a second basket. Anzley Rodriguez finished a fast
break and Arzola chipped in a hoop to give the Lady Mules a 30-16 lead going
into the final quarter.
Barrera made six of the final
eight Lady Mules points in the last quarter. Moran scored the final hoop before
the Lady Mules dribbled out the final seconds of the game.
Barrera led the Lady Mule
charge with 22 points. Arzola dropped in six points. Hasley and Moran finished
with four points each and Rodriguez chipped in two points.
Barrera got the Lady Mules
off to a fast start with two hoops and a pair of free throws in the first
period against the Olton Fillies. Arzola dropped in a pair of baskets. Grace
Leal finished a fast break and Kaitlyn Kelly chipped in a free throw. The Lady
Mules led 13-4 after the first quarter.
Rodriguez, Barrera and Arzola
each scored a hoop in the second period and Moran chipped in a charity toss.
The Lady Mules had extended their advantage to 20-6 by the intermission.
Arzola took over the game in
the second half with five points in the third period and four points in the
final six minute period. Hasley chipped in a basket in the third period. The
Lady Mules led 27-9 after three quarters.
Arzola set the scoring pace
with 15 points and Barrera dropped in eight points. Rodriguez, Leal and Hasley
added two points each. Moran and Kelley chipped in a point apiece.
The Lady Mules hosted the
Littlefield Lady Cats Monday and will close out their basketball season at home
February 8 when they will host the Friona Maidens.
