Lady Mule Softball vs. Slaton & Idalou (4-3&7-2017)

The Lady Mules rallied back from down 8-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning against the Tigerettes of Slaton. The Lady Mules sent 14 players to the plate and scored 11 runs to take a 12-8 lead. Slaton fell short when they only scored two runs in the top of the seventh. The Lady Mules won the game 12-10.

A pair of errors by the Lady Mules gave the Lady Cats of Idalou extra outs. Those extra outs turned into runs and cost the Lady Mules the game  8-5.

The Lady Mules are currently at 3-3 in the district and tied for third place with Idalou.

Slaton scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, and one in the third inning for a 4-1 lead over the Lady Mules. The Tigerettes scrambled for four more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-1.

Madison Hasley sent a two-out singled up the middle in the first inning. She went around the bases on wild pitches to score the Lady Mules’ first run. The Lady Mules did not score again until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hasley sent a ground ball by the shortstop, and the leftfielder could not stop the ball before it reached the fence. By the time the ball was back to the infield, Hasley was crossing the plate.

Ahtziri Elizalde took the count full before drawing a walk. Brittney Mendoza also walked before Victoria Villalobos blasted a double to left field to score both runners. Dellany Martinez singled by the second baseman.

An error by the right fielder allowed Felicity Sena to reach first base. Villalobos and Martinez both scored on the error. Crystal Flores ground ball tied the shortstop’s hands to put Lady Mules at first and third.

A single to left by Mireya Ruvalcaba and Hasley singled to right scored Flores. Elizalde had singled to left before Mendoza launched a homerun over the leftfield fence to put the Lady Mules in front to stay.

Slaton only scored two in the top of the seventh before Villalobos camped under a fly ball at second base for the final out to end the game.

The Lady Mules fell behind Idalou in the first inning and could never quite catch up to the Lady Cats. Errors in the third and sixth innings by the Lady Mules allowed Idalou to score the necessary runs to defeat the Lady Mules.

The Lady Mules rallied for four runs in the third inning but could not repeat that feat in the seventh inning.

The Lady Mules traveled to Littlefield Tuesday to play the Lady Cats and will go to Shallowater Friday and play at noon. The Lady Mules return home April 18 for Senior Night.
