MHS District Track (4-4 & 5-2017)
The Muleshoe High School track teams competed in the District 2-3A Track Meet on the Lubbock Cooper High School Track Tuesday and Wednesday. The Mules finished fifth.
“Our team competed extremely well while dealing with some critical injuries,” said Mules track coach, Wes Wood. “Our varsity boys are extremely young as they competed without a single senior participant. Hopefully, that means a bright future.”
The top four finishers in each event will compete in the Area Track Meet.
Eduardo Pantoja won the bronze medal in the first race of the day. He finished the 3200-meter run in a time of eleven minutes 19.40 seconds. Ethan Gonzalez placed seventh in the same event with a time of 12:18.44.
Leonel Camarena placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet four and a quarter inches. Julian Astorga finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 108-00.
Joe Wagonner earned a place at the Area Meet by earning the bronze medal in the pole vault with a height of 11-00. Jorge Albarran took the silver medal in the high jump with a leap of 5-08. Justin Carrion placed eighth in the triple jump with a combined distance of 34-07.25.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Waggoner, Carrion, Albarran, and Romeo Reyes placed seventh with a time of 45.64. Jacob Kettner finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.53. Waggoner placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.15.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Carrion, Michael Lozano, Yoel Reyes and R. Reyes finished sixth with a time of 1:36.43. Waggoner placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.85.
Y. Reyes won the silver medal in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.29. Albarran finished the same event in fifth with a time of 23.93. Pantoja earned his second bronze medal in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:59.21. Gonzales placed sixth in the same event with a time of 5:06.76.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Y. Reyes, Luke Del Toro, R. Reyes and Lozano wrapped up the meet in fourth place with a time of 3:43.54.

The Mules will travel to Tulia Thursday to compete in the Area Track Meet.
