JV Mules vs. Shallowater & Roosevelt (1-9&12-2018)

The Mules fell hard Tuesday evening at the hands of the Shallowater Mustangs. Shallowater won the game 67-22. The Mules came rolling back Friday night against the Roosevelt Eagles. The Mules held on in the final period for a 36-31 win.

Jose Cardenas scored the Mules only two points Tuesday evening in the opening quarter. The Mules trailed 15-2 after one quarter.

Ricky Diaz was fouled and made one free throw to open the second quarter. Leonel Camarena scored from the blocks, and Brian Cruz chipped in a free throw. Kelan Florez sank a short jumper and added a free throw. Derek Barron just beat the buzzer with a layup. The Mules trailed Shallowater 32-11 at the half.

Camarena dropped in a charity toss and then scored from the blocks for the Mules only three points of the third period. The Mules were down 53-14 after three quarters.

Jimmy Villa converted a pair of free throws to open the final quarter. Adrian Bustillos, Florez, and Diaz added a basket each.

Camarena and Florez led the Mules with five points each. Diaz added three points. Barron, Bustillos, Villa, and Diaz had two points each.

Cardenas caught fire in the opening period at Roosevelt for three hoops. Villa added a pair of baskets, and the Mules led 10-3 after one quarter.

Camarena dominated the paint in the second quarter with three baskets. Bryan Ginez and Barron added a hoop each. The Mules led 20-12 at the half.

Cardenas made the Mules only basket in the third quarter. But the Mule defense held the Eagles to two points.

The Mules held on in the last quarter for the win. Ginez scored with a short jumper. Villa made a pair of baskets. Barron converted a free throw to complete a three-point play. He later kissed the ball high off the glass for a bucket. He finished the night with a free throw.

Barron, Cardenas, and Villa led the Mules with eight points each. Camarena finished with six points, and Ginez added four points. Bustillos chipped in two points.


The Mules traveled to Littlefield Tuesday evening to play the Wildcats. The Mules return home January 19 to host the Idalou Wildcats.
