Mules vs. Hale Center (11-28-2017)

Mules vs. Hale Center (11-28-2017)

The Mules got off to a slow start on Tuesday night when they hosted the Hale Center Owls. But the Mules went all out in the final frame to outscore the Owls 21-10 in the last period. Despite the big final period, the Mules fell 50-41 to Hale Center.

Wyatt Parker broke the Mules’ scoring drought when he sank a free throw with 4:30 left in the first quarter. Jacob Barron scored the Mules only bucket. The Mules trailed 7-3 after one frame.

Izaiah Perez scored a hoop a minute and a half into the second period. Barron made his second bucket and went five-for-six from the charity line. Brian Cruz chipped in a free throw. The Mules trailed the Owls 27-13 at the intermission.

The Owls scored the first six points of the third period before Perez put back a rebound for the Mules. Israel Vasquez spun in the lane for a hoop, and Barron sank a trey from the right wing to end the Mule scoring. Portales led the Mules 40-20 going into the final quarter.

Luke Leal opened the final period with a driving layup. Vasquez sank a 15-foot jump shot. Leal picked off an Owl inbound pass and passed to Vasquez for a layup. Vasquez added a free throw to complete an old-fashion three-point play.

The Owls scored the next six points before Vasquez ended the scoring run with a free throw. Ethan Villa put back his own missed shot. Barron’s next shot almost did a 360 around the rim before falling through the hoop.

Vasquez scored in the paint. Villa was fouled shooting in the paint and made both free throws. Carter McCamish picked an Owls’ pocket and was fouled attempting to shoot. He made both shots from the charity line. Barron ended the game with a 3-pointer on an inbounds play as time expired.

Barron led the Mule offense with 17 points that included two 3-pointers. Vasquez finished with 10 points. Perez dropped in four points, and Villa added three points. Leal and McCamish made two points each. Cruz and Parker chipped in one point apiece.

The Mules hosted the Denver City Mustangs Tuesday night. They are scheduled to play in the Farwell Invitational Tournament December 7-9. The Mules will travel to Levelland to play the Lobos December 12.
