8^th L. Mules vs. Littlefield (11-24-2014)

The eighth grade Lady Mules came up a little short in their game against the Littlefield Lady Cats. The contest was even until the final minute of the third period when the Cats scored 10 points. That spurt was the difference in the game. The Lady Mules fell 37-34.

“The score did not reflect how well we played,” said Lady Mule coach Jalissa King. “This was the best that our press has ever looked. We gave up the 10 points at the end of the third quarter and this was unrecoverable.”

“The last minute and a half of the game our girls really fought and tried to tie up the game. The final 60 seconds was amazing basketball and showed what our girls are really capable of doing. I love that these girls will fight until the very last buzzer.”

The Lady Mules led 12-9 after the first period but Littlefield battled back to tie the game at 14-14 by the intermission. Littlefield out scored the Lady Mules 16-6 in the third period to take a 30-20 lead into the final period.

The Lady Mules came roaring back in the final period but could only make up six of the 10 points lost in the third quarter. Keely Dunham led the Lady Mules with 13 points and Alyssa Wheeler dropped in eight points.

Littlefield only has a combined B-Team and defeated the last-minute combination of seventh and eighth grade Lady Mules 34-16. 

“We had to combine five eighth graders and five seventh grade girls,” said Coach King. “This was difficult because these girls do not practice together. The eighth graders really worked hard helping the seventh graders to know what to do. All of the girls played really hard and made the best of a tough situation.”

Sophie Reyna led the Lady Mules in scoring with eight points. Liliana Martinez added five points for the Lady Mules.

The Lady Mules continued their district schedule Monday when they traveled to Friona to take on the Maidens. The Lady Mules will finish 2014 at home with Tulia coming December 8 and Shallowater will complete 2014 when the Fillies visit December 15.
