JV Mules vs. Hale Center

The JV Mules defeated the
Hale Center Owls Tuesday evening in their only contest of the week. The Owls
scored first but the Mules rallied back with Javy Perez dropping in a baseline
jump shot. The rolled on to defeat the Owls 29-21.
Tim Perez added a bucket in
the lane. Antonio Vasquez made the inbound pass to Jesse Leal for a bucket to
extend the Mule lead to 6-1 but the Owls scored before the period ended.
The Owls stormed back when
the second period began with a 10-point scoring run. Donavan Gutierrez made the
inbound pass to Triston Boehning. Boehning scored to break the run.
The Mules ran on a fast break
but the Owls were close behind. Bryce Mauricio gave a head fake and waited for
the Owl defenders to fly past him before gently tapping the ball off the glass
and through the hoop.
The Mule defense had again
locked down the Owls. Aaryn Ross was fouled shooting and made one free throw.
Vasquez finished a break to tie the game at 13-13 with 35 seconds left in the
half.
The Owls made a charity toss
to take a brief lead and T. Perez cleaned up an offensive rebound and scored
just before the buzzer sounded to end the half with the Mules leading 15-14.
Vasquez made a steal and
drove the floor for a lay up. Gutierrez was fouled shooting and made a free
throw. Reese Orozco made 3-pointer from the left wing to put the Mules on top
21-17 to start the final period.
The Owls scored a hoop to
start the final period to cut the Mule lead to 21-19 and that was as close as
the Owls would get. Orozco made a steal at mid court and drove for a lay up.
Boehning drove the baseline
for a hoop to extend the Mules’ lead to 25-20. Leal drove the lane to draw the
defense and dished the ball to J. Perez for a hoop. T. Perez stole an Owl
inbound pass, drove the floor and scored.
T. Perez led the Mules with
six points and Orozco finished with five. Vasquez, Boehning and J. Perez added
four points each. Leal and Mauricio made two points apiece and Ross chipped in
one point.
The Mules traveled to
Floydada Tuesday and will wrap up 2014 at Lubbock Roosevelt Friday December 16.
